Industry Specification Group (ISG) on Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS)

RIS relates to a new type of system node with surfaces that may have reflection, refraction, and absorption properties through many small antennas or metamaterials elements which can be adapted to a specific radio channel environment.

The ISG identifies and describes RIS related use cases and deployment scenarios, specifies derived requirements and identifies technology challenges in several areas including fixed and mobile wireless access, fronthaul and backhaul, sensing and positioning, energy and EMF exposure limits, security and privacy.

It also documents a networking e2e reference architecture including RIS elements, describes RIS based specific deployment practice / guidelines, provides a gap analysis for RIS microelectronics and enabling technologies and makes proofs of concepts.
