Technical groups

Where ETSI members and non-members collaborate to produce thousands of standards and specifications annually.

ETSI’s standardisation work is conducted in our Technical Groups. These comprise over 45 Technical Committees, Industry Specification Groups and Software Development Groups, where ETSI members and other stakeholders unite in an agile, inclusive environment to create globally applicable standards and specifications for ICT-enabled products, systems and services.

ETSI technical groups

Technical Committees (TCs)

Technical Committees are responsible for developing formal ETSI standards, including European Standards (ENs), Technical Specifications (TSs), and Technical Reports (TRs). These committees follow structured approval processes and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks. They cover areas such as 5G, cybersecurity, AI, IoT, and broadband technologies.

Industry Specification Groups (ISGs)

ISGs provide a flexible, industry-driven environment for companies to collaborate on emerging technologies and new industry challenges. These groups operate under streamlined ETSI procedures and produce Group Specifications (GSs) and Group Reports (GRs) that help shape future standards. ISGs focus on fast-moving areas like edge computing, quantum-safe cryptography, and network automation.

Software Development Groups (SDGs)

SDGs support ETSI’s standardisation efforts by developing open-source software, proof-of-concept tools, and reference implementations. These groups help industries test and adopt ETSI standards through practical software development. SDGs bridge the gap between standards and real-world deployment, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies.
