Broadcasting

Connecting content creators and audiences with technologies that are used globally for television, radio and data broadcasting.

ETSI produces and maintains standards and technical specifications for a wide range of broadcast platforms and systems. This work includes Harmonised Standards for products placed on the market in line with European legislation, where we collaborate with other organisations to secure appropriate frequency allocations.

Why standards matter

ETSI plays a leading role in the development of specifications for TV and radio broadcast services delivered via cable, satellite, and terrestrial transmitters, as well as the Internet and mobile communication systems. Standardisation of broadcast systems, programme transmission and reception equipment is managed by JTC Broadcast, the Joint Technical Committee that brings us together with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC).
