Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS)
System architecture, building blocks and functions, interworking with GSM-R, user equipment capabilities, radio characteristics, onboard radio interface (OBRAD).
ETSI’s Technical Committee on Rail Telecommunications (TC RT) is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards for GSM-R and FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System), working in close cooperation and coordination with UIC (International Union of Railways) and 3GPP.

- Maintenance of GSM™ for Railways (GSM-R) specifications.
- Development of specifications for FRMCS in response to a standardisation request by the European Commission.
- Investigation into shared use of the 5.9 GHz frequency band for Urban Rail and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in cooperation with ETSI TC ITS.
