TC RT

Working with the rail industry in Europe and worldwide to assess user requirements and develop specifications for Future Railway Mobile Communication System.

ETSI’s Technical Committee on Rail Telecommunications (TC RT) is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards for GSM-R and FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System), working in close cooperation and coordination with UIC (International Union of Railways) and 3GPP.

  • What we do

    • Maintenance of GSM™ for Railways (GSM-R) specifications.
    • Development of specifications for FRMCS in response to a standardisation request by the European Commission.
    • Investigation into shared use of the 5.9 GHz frequency band for Urban Rail and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in cooperation with ETSI TC ITS.
