ETSI’s Software Development Group OpenSlice (SDG OSL) is developing an open source, intelligent Operations Support System (OSS) to deliver Network-as-a-Service (NaaS), based on TM Forum’s Open Digital Architecture (ODA).
SDG OpenSlice is building an Operations Support System that bridges the gap between complex infrastructure and agile service delivery. It empowers operators by providing plug-and-play network and cloud controllers, including support for ETSI NFV, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Linux Foundation Sylva and CAMARA, IETF, 3GPP CAPIF, and GitOps, abstracted and expressed in TM Forum’s Open Digital Architecture (ODA) ontologies.
OpenSlice leverages AI at multiple levels, supporting the transition towards autonomous networks. On one side, LLM and MCP-driven chat interfaces make complex processes more intuitive for users. In addition, the OpenSlice Service Orchestration and Order Management (OSOM) engine incorporates agent-based orchestration to enable self-management of intelligent network paths that adapt in real time.
SDG OSL collaborates with several other standardisation and software groups at ETSI, such ISG NFV, ZSM, SDG OSM, TFS and OCF, and in other relevant standards bodies and foundations including TM Forum and the Linux Foundation. SDG OSL benefits from a wide research and innovation ecosystem, leveraging the code and contributing feedback from innovative use cases.
SDG OpenSlice delivers two major code releases per year, in January and July, followed by plenary meetings and optionally Hackfests. During release cycles the community meets weekly online to synchronise progress and priorities.
Participation in SDG OSL is open to ETSI members and non-members upon signature of the SDG OSL Agreement. Individual contributors may also participate in our work. Learn more here or contact us.
