Lorenzo Mucchi is an Associate Professor of Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Florence (Italy), with extensive expertise in wireless systems and emerging communication paradigms. His research covers areas of strong relevance to standardization, including body area networks, physical-layer security, visible light communications and advanced localization techniques.

He currently serves as Chair of the ETSI Technical Committee SmartBAN (since 2022) and has been actively contributing to ETSI since 2013, leading standardization efforts for next-generation IoT and digital health solutions. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society (2025–2026), with a consolidated record of international scientific leadership and innovation.

Lorenzo Mucchi chose to become an ETSI Ambassador because he is deeply committed to advancing trustworthy and interoperable communication technologies, and he believes that standardization is essential to transforming scientific innovation into real-world impact across industry, healthcare and society.
