ETSI is pleased to unveil its 2025 ETSI Fellows who were announced at the 85th ETSI General Assembly on 25 March. The awards ceremony took place at the Meridien hotel, located in the beautiful settings of the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice, in the South of France. Serge Raes and Alex Leadbeater were unanimously nominated as ETSI Fellows for their outstanding personal contributions to the organization by the Awards committee, composed of the GA Chair and Vice-Chairs, the Board Chair and the ETSI Director-General.

Today, ETSI announces the launch of its post-quantum security standard to guarantee the protection of critical data and communications in the future. The specification “Efficient Quantum-Safe Hybrid Key Exchanges with Hidden Access Policies” (ETSI TS 104 015) has been developed to enhance security mechanisms, ensuring that only authorized users with the correct permissions can access sensitive data to decrypt them.

The European Standardisation Organisations (ESOs) CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, together with ENISA, the EU Agency for Cybersecurity, successfully co-hosted the 9th Cybersecurity Standardisation Conference on 20 March 2025 in Brussels.

The Global Partnership for Human-Centric ICT Standardization Project (GIST) was officially launched on 06 Feb 2025 at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), marking a significant step towards strengthening global collaboration on ICT standardization, as part of the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.

While Paris became the artificial intelligence (AI) capital of the world during the AI Action Summit, ETSI held its AI conference, How Standardization is Shaping the Future of AI, at its premises. More than 160 face-to-face attendees from 22 countries engaged with experts who discussed the essential role of AI standards and how Standards Development Organizations can bring rationality to the AI debate.

ETSI is pleased to announce the establishment of a new Technical Committee on Data Solutions (TC DATA) aimed at advancing data-driven technologies and supporting the development of new industry standards. TC DATA will provide a center of expertise in data infrastructures, services, and applications, developing data solutions specifically designed to support services for IoT, telecommunications systems and networks, as well as human services and other industries.

The TC DATA will also develop technical standards to support data interoperability and semantic interoperability.

Looking forward to the world’s largest and most influential connectivity event - Mobile World Congress 2025, March 3 - 6 in Barcelona.

ETSI announces the appointment of Martin Chatel as Chief Policy Officer

ETSI is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Chatel as Chief Policy Officer, who will lead the Policy Affairs Department at ETSI. Martin Chatel will join ETSI on 10 February 2025 and will be based in Brussels. As Chief Policy Officer, Martin Chatel will spearhead ETSI’s strategic policy engagement with the European Commission, EFTA, CEPT, international policymakers, societal stakeholders, and industry associations, under the leadership of ETSI Director-General Jan Ellsberger.
