New release: Data models for resource templates to foster interoperability between VIMs and NFVOs/VNFMs

20 August 2020, Hiroshi Dempo, ETSI GS NFV-SOL 014 rapporteur, NEC

In this initial release of the specification, input and output data models for virtualised compute, network and storage resources are described while maintaining consistency with the parameter and attribute names in ETSI GS NFV-IFA 005 and 006 as much as possible.

To aid the users of the specification, an Annex has been included which provides examples for composing templates with parameters and attributes specified in ETSI GS NFV-SOL 014 that define virtualised compute, network and storage resources. These examples use the Heat Orchestration Template (HOT) of OpenStack®, which is considered as a type of descriptor-based virtualised resource management, as explained in ETSI GS NFV-IFA 006.

With the publication of ETSI GS NFV-SOL 014, the ETSI ISG NFV has now a solid baseline to continue providing guidance for descriptor-based virtualised resource management, as a prominent way of managing the virtualised resources for VNFs and Network Services in current and future deployments, while also improving the quality of related specifications.
