SDG Open Source MANO

Developing a production-grade Management and Orchestration Stack aligned with ETSI NFV standards, enabling the design and management of virtualised and cloud-native network services across public and private clouds, with multi-vendor interoperability.

Open Source MANO - logoETSI’s Software Development Group OpenSourceMANO (SDG OSM) is developing a production-grade Management and Orchestration Stack aligned with ETSI NFV standards. It enables telecom operators to design and manage virtualised and cloud-native network services and infrastructure across public and private clouds. SDG OSM supports multi-vendor ecosystems and aims for interoperability across infrastructures and network functions.

Key areas of work

Cloud icon

Orchestration & declarative operations

OSM orchestrates cloud-native network services across VM and Kubernetes environments, supporting the full lifecycle of telco-grade services. In addition, the latest OSM releases support declarative models, intent-based workflows, and GitOps-style operations to simplify service delivery and infrastructure management. OSM supports service lifecycle automation for network services, applications, and hybrid deployments.

Modularity & extensibility

OSM provides modular installation, expanded Virtual Infrastructure Manager support, and tooling (SDK, intent transformation) to support innovation with up-to-date frameworks and dependencies. This enables extensibility and broader ecosystem integration.

Collaboration & ecosystem

SDG OSM collaborates with several other standardisation and software groups at ETSI, such as ISG NFV, SDG TFS, SDG OSL, and in other relevant standards bodies and foundations including the Linux Foundation. SDG OSM benefits from a wide research and innovation ecosystem, leveraging the code and contributing feedback from innovative use cases.

  • How we work

SDG OSM follows a regular cadence of two releases per year, in January and July, followed by plenary meetings and optionally Hackfests. During release cycles, the community meets weekly online to synchronise progress and priorities.
