Dr. Rafik Goubran is a Chancellor’s Professor and Vice-President (Research, Innovation & International) at Carleton University. He served as Vice-President since 2017, as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design from 2006 to 2016, and as Chair of the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering between 1997 and 2006.

Dr. Goubran is an international expert in the field of sensors and data analytics, including sensor fusion and AI. He is an expert in audio quality, microphone arrays, and the design of smart homes. His work is done in close collaboration with industry partners. Dr. Goubran has, to date, co-supervised 112 graduate students, co-authored over 390 peer-reviewed publications and 10 patents, and has attracted over $5M in external research funding. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, an honorary Fellow of AGE-WELL, a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, and an affiliate investigator with the Bruyère Research Institute.
