Michael Pluke

Mike Pluke was active in early Human Factors standardisation work in ISO/IEC and ITU-T since 1988. He became a member of ETSI TC HF (Human Factors) in 1993 and first held the role of TC HF Vice-Chair in 2002. He led or contributed to the development of many TC HF standards and guides, several of which focus on user identification and user profile management.
From 2011, Mike was responsible for the development of the ETSI/CEN/CENELEC EN 301 549 standard through its successive phases, supporting the establishment of mandated European ICT accessibility standards. The first iteration of the standard was to support ICT procurement in Europe, while the two subsequent revisions have been to create Harmonised Standards for the Web Accessibility Directive and the European Accessibility Act.
Mike retired on 16 January 2026.
