ETSI is pleased to endorse 6GSymposium Spring 2024, taking place on 9-11 April 2024.

This is a vital time in the development of telecoms. There are drastically different visions for what 6G needs to do and to be, and interests pulling stakeholders in many different directions.

How do we avoid the mistakes of the past? Only by a deliberate evolution of mindsets, business relations, strategies and industry processes alongside technology and policy evolution. Perhaps then we can build commercially successful future services which deliver the societal impact governments need.

At 6GSymposium, join ETSI alongside experts from around the world debating the most important issues and controversies facing telecoms’ development. Have your say, learn and network with key stakeholders from across telecoms and beyond.

Hear David Boswarthick, Director New Technologies, ETSI on Wednesday 10 April, 09:00-10:30, in the session "How Can Standards Processes Deliver the Best Outcomes for 6G?":

As 3GPP makes moves towards the standardisation process for 6G, it is seeming increasingly likely that – whatever 6G turns out to be – it won’t be purely a mobile access technology. Moreover, the stakeholders, use cases and potential users are likely to be different from previous generations. What can we do differently in standards to ensure that the outcome ends up fit for the demands of the 2030s?

Event type: Conferences & Summits

The ETSI Conference on “Non-Terrestrial Networks, a Native Component of 6G” took place face-to-face on 3-4 April 2024 in ETSI, Sophia Antipolis, France.

The conference was co-organized with the ESA, 6G-IA and the SNS-JU.

From NTN research to global standards, plotting the trajectory to a fully connected planet.

Non-Terrestrial Networks have been part of 5G since 3GPP Rel-17 and the use of NTN related technologies enables global coverage for a wide range of applications that require both high availability and high resilience.

6G will consider a native integration of NTN in the 6G system, thus allowing the optimization of service delivery leveraging both terrestrial networks and non-terrestrial networks in 6G from the outset. In addition 6G NTN is expected to provide increased performances and service capabilities compared to NTN in 5G.

About the Conference

This face-to-face event offered attendees the unique opportunity to come together and exchange with experts, network with peers, and visit the dedicated project posters all focussing on the topic of Non-Terrestrial Networks for beyond 5G.

The event fostered discussions on the following topics:
• Targeted use cases that will be enabled by NTN in 6G
• Possible 6G architecture frameworks (including interfaces) enabling the native integration of the NTN components
• Candidate technologies/features for NTN in 6G
• Standardization approach (e.g. what, where, when) for NTN in 6G

Additionally, the event gave the opportunity for research organizations (academia and industrial research) to discuss new trends and features in the field of NTN solutions in the perspective of standardization.

Posters from the latest projects in the field NTN / satellite / 6G technologies complemented the conference programme.

Participation to the event was open to all and free of charge upon registration.

Note that the event was prepared with the support of the Horizon Europe 6G-NTN collaborative project and the ESA HELENA project.

ETSI is pleased to support and speak at the RCR Wireless News' Telco cloud and Edge Forum, taking place virtually on 21st March 2024 (9 AM Eastern / 2 PM UK).

Telecom carriers are at a crossroads in their transformation journey. They face challenges such as network disaggregation, cloud strategies and legacy system integration. However, amidst these challenges, new innovations including AI and APIs offer new avenues for growth.

What does the future hold for telcos as they pivot towards cloud-native networks, and how can they evolve to facilitate ROI?

Join RCR Wireless News' one day virtual forum to delve into the business models adopted by telcos worldwide and what the tools to adopt a ‘fail-fast' approach to innovation are. We will deep dive into the technical and strategic aspects of the transition to a cloud native network and the related applications that are driving ROI.

Franscisco Javier Ramon Salguero, Chair of ETSI Open Source MANO (ETSI OSM), will participate in the PANEL—Public cloud or DIY? Cloud model strategies — costs, risks and opportunities, on Thursday March 21st – 9am EDT/2pm CET
