In the dynamic landscape of communication technology, the convergence of open source software, standardization, and cutting-edge research stands as a cornerstone for building resilient and sustainable networks. ETSI has pioneered an approach in establishing Software Development Groups, alongside research-driven early-stage standardization in Industry Specification Groups, all in close proximity to 3GPP. This event, spanning a 1.5-day conference supplemented by 3 half-day Hackfests, will explore the synergies between these complementary tracks, shaping the future of communication infrastructure and services.

With a multidisciplinary approach, this gathering will highlight the relationships between open source initiatives, industry standards, and academic research in driving innovation, fostering interoperability, and ensuring the long-term viability of communication networks. Through a series of engaging talks, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, participants will delve into the collaborative frameworks essential for harnessing the collective strengths of these pillars.

Key themes to be explored include:

The role of software and open source in accelerating the development and deployment of standardized communication technologies, fostering agility and adaptability. The importance of standardization efforts in establishing interoperable frameworks and ensuring global connectivity. The impact of research advancements in pushing the boundaries of technological innovation, driving forward-thinking solutions for future challenges. Strategies for fostering cross-pollination among industry, academia, and open source communities to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration. Concrete examples of collaboration, achievements, and challenges from ongoing initiatives.

Hackfest sessions will provide a hands-on platform for attendees to engage with our most recent Software Development Groups through real-world projects, experiment with emerging technologies, and contribute to ongoing initiatives, underlining the practical applications of the principles discussed during the conference.

Join us as we navigate the interplay of software, standardization, and research, envisioning a future where collaboration across these domains paves the way for sustainable, inclusive, and interoperable communication networks and services.

ETSI is pleased to support again the TelecomTV-AI-native Telco Summit taking place on 15-16 October 2024.

Returning for its second year, the AI-Native Telco Summit explores how automated processes and the deployment of AI-based tools are manifesting themselves in network operations as well as service delivery and management.

The summit asks what becoming AI native means for telcos and how they will benefit from organisational-level processes and strategy. This year, the summit investigates the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and looks at how telcos can best deploy this technology, as well as considering the merits of telco-specific large language models (LLMs). It also delves into the new AI skills and hardware requirements for telcos and the resulting opportunities.

👉Scott Cadzow, Chair of ETSI TC Securing Artificial Intelligence (SAI), will join the great lineup of thought leaders and decision-makers to discuss how automated processes and the deployment of AI-based tools are manifesting themselves in network operations as well as service delivery and management. Join Scott Cadzow in the following sessions:

Live Q&A on Day 1: Tuesday 15 October 2024 Panel 3: Telcos and the LLM opportunity on Day two: Wednesday 16 October 2024

ETSI, in cooperation with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), is organizing a NG112 Emergency Communications with NG eCall Plugtests event to be held in Malaga, Spain with the support of ETSI TC EMTEL and TC MSG. This event will be hosted by the University of Malaga from 30 September to 4 October 2024. Remote participation will be possible.

The concept of "Next Generation 112" (NG112) has been identified as a potential answer to the increasing requirements and demands of content-rich emergency calling. The interoperability of such NG112 with NG eCall products and services has not been tested in Europe previously, leading to this ideal opportunity.

This NG112 Emergency Communications Plugtests event will see a testing campaign based on the use cases developed by ETSI and EENA and is a unique chance for vendors of emergency communication equipment to test their product against different implementations and scenarios.

Please note that the event is covered by a Non-Disclosure Agreement which sets out the terms of a fair and non-discriminatory participation, i.e. vendors are free to publish their attendance to the event, and interoperability results shall be treated as confidential information.

The benefits of participation for a vendor include a chance to test even early implementations in a neutral environment, to validate their understanding of next generation emergency calling requirements as well as to communicate about and promote the technology.
An event not to be missed, if you want to be sure your products and implementations are fit for the next generation emergency calling requirements.

Registration is now open. It will close on 31 August 2024.

Join ETSI at the RCR Wireless News' virtual 6G Forum on 1st October.

Is it too early to be talking about 6G? Opinions in the telco industry are divided. Many CSPs are investing in 6G R&D, advocating for more energy-efficient networks. Others question the tangible benefits and ROI as the industry is still working on monetizing 5G.

To explore this further, join RCR Wireless News' virtual 6G Forum on October 1st. Gain insights on the latest 6G research, future services and discuss deployment timelines. Our industry-led discussions will tackle both the practicalities of making 6G a reality and seek to answer the question 'why do we actually need 6G?'

ETSI is pleased to support the event is actively shaping the programme.

Issam Toufik, CTO, ETSI will provide his views in the Panel: What do we want 6G to be? on 1st October, at 9:10 AM EDT.
The panel will address the following questions:  Is the 2030 timeline for deployments realistic? What can we expect between now and 2030? 6G priorities in North America, versus EMEA, versus APAC Will standard harmonization be likely for 6G - or will it be a case of regional standards? What are the emerging concepts for 6G? Potential applications and services
