ETSI and the Institute for Quantum Computing are thrilled to organize the 2025 edition of their joint event, the ETSI/IQC Quantum Safe Cryptography Conference. This year, the event will be hosted physically by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) on 3-5 June 2025 in Madrid (Spain).

We increasingly rely on cyber technologies, and hence are ever more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. As progress toward a cryptographically relevant quantum computer advances, these attack vectors grow and the imperative to prepare for a transition to quantum secure technologies continues to increase. 
This is a continually evolving and complex journey and much remains to be understood and navigated. 

Designed for members of the business, government, and research communities with a stake in cryptographic standardization, this forward-looking conference facilitates the knowledge exchange and collaboration required to transition cyber infrastructures and business practices to make them safe and resilient in an era with quantum computers. ETSI Technical Committee Speech and multimedia Transmission Quality (TC STQ) is pleased to announce that the ETSI STQ Conference: Communications for All - Supporting Diversity and Accessibility through Quality of End-to-end Network Transmission and Devices in Human-to-human and Human-to-machine Communication, will take place face-to-face in ETSI Premises, Sophia Antipolis, France on 13-14 May 2025.

This face-to-face conference aims at bringing together communities that have not been well-connected to standards development in speech and multimedia transmission until now. ETSI TC STQ recognizes the need to bring more inclusivity to technical standards on the quality of network transmission and devices on speech and multimedia in human-to-human and human-to-machine communication, to ensure that diverse groups have input into the work of STQ.  

Standardization of measurement and evaluation methods for speech and multimedia devices and networks is crucial to ensure that all users receive high quality of service and high quality of experience.  Previous work in ETSI TC STQ has focused on human perception of speech and audio, as well as network-enabled services.  However, with some exceptions, various aspects of accessibility still need to be addressed. 

In order to bridge this gap, this conference will provide a venue for interested advocates and communities to present and discuss issues of relevance, that so far have not been at the centre of technical standards development. The Programme Committee encourages a wide range of inputs and views to help inform and guide future work on diversity and accessibility.

ETSI and the French Non-Governmental Organization eG4U (e-Green for users) are organizing the Sustainable Digital Multiservice Communities (SDMC) Conference on 10th April 2025 in ETSI premises, Sophia Antipolis, France. The day-long event will focus on the challenges faced by communities and territories around the sustainable development of communication infrastructures, including roads, green spaces, energy supply, construction & renovation of buildings.

The event is part of the eG4U Conference series, dedicated to strengthening at European level the environmental, economic and societal sustainability of ICT, across towns and cities in France (Montrouge/Grand Paris, Labège/Toulouse).

In times of climate emergency, communication infrastructure technologies must be optimized in terms of sustainable development. The key technologies in question include IoT, AI & open data, Building information modeling (BIM) and digital twins. Much of this work is already addressed in ETSI.

Discussion will be encouraged on how Smart city buildings & infrastructure are to communicate, to provide the vital data needed for automated resource optimization. Speakers will also address how security, energy & waste management are becoming more efficient thanks to digital technologies.

Now is the time for the exchange of ideas on the pooling of resources, the convergence of applications through open connectivity, the reconditioning and reuse of materials to deliver a greener future. This discussion should influence and guide ETSI to focus on providing even greater interoperability of equipment, through standardized interfaces and communication protocols.

The SDMC Conference will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on dealing with energy, lighting, water quality, intelligent buildings, video and wireless transmission systems, waste treatment and recycling… in a greener & connected way.

Overview

The annual ETSI User Conference on Advanced Automated Testing (UCAAT) is the most important point in the calendar of ETSI’s Technical Committee Methods for Testing and Specification (TC MTS).

ETSI's UCAAT conference, now in its eleventh edition, is dedicated to all aspects of automated testing, including model-based testing, cloud and mobile testing, security testing, agile test methodologies, test management, and standardized test specification, by focusing on the practical challenges that are often faced in industry and standardization as dictated by relevant policies and regulations.

UCAAT 2025: Automated Testing in a Digital Transformation World

As the world goes digital, rapidly evolving technology, policy, and regulation landscapes drive transformation across all industries. To stay competitive, facilitate swift market delivery, and meet escalating customer demands, organizations should prioritize customer-centric digital transformation while leveraging technologies such as AI, Big Data, IoT, and robotic operations and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

The need for seamless, robust, and user-centered digital solutions highlights the critical role of automated testing in shaping future digital business operations or public services and improving customer and citizen satisfaction respectively. It is essential to ensure that systems operate reliably and are sufficiently scalable, secure and easily configurable to meet specific user requirements, which places additional demands on suitable testing methods, tools, and processes. Usability testing is essential in this context, as it ensures that the product is intuitive to use, ultimately leading to higher user satisfaction and reduced maintenance costs.

Additionally, ensuring cybersecurity becomes critical, considering the digital nature of services and products offered through digital transformation and the ever-increasing number of users relying on these services. Customers demand trustworthy and resilient systems, whose properties can only be guaranteed through vigorous security testing, quality assurance, and cyber resilience assessment that align well with policies and regulations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act.

Similarly, the uptake of technologies related to big data and Artificial Intelligence poses additional challenges to digital solutions and products. The probabilistic nature of AI makes it particularly hard to use this technology in a safety-critical context. New testing techniques are therefore urgently needed. On a regulatory basis, the EU Artificial Intelligence Act plays a crucial role.

Another significant element, especially for digital public services, but not limited to them, is interoperability testing of digital systems even across borders, which has recently come into play with the enforcement of the Interoperable Europe Act, envisioning mandatory interoperability assessments for all public sector bodies. This will guarantee improved user experiences within and beyond the country of residence.

UCAAT 2025 will delve into the crucial role of automated testing in driving successful digital transformation. It will explore innovative solutions and best practices that empower organizations to thrive in an increasingly digital world while ensuring that user-centric and personalized approaches are central to testing strategies.

ETSI organized the NGSI-LD (Next Generation Service Interface - Linked Data) Plugtests™ event, which was co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and hosted by ETSI at Sophia Antipolis, France, from 24 to 28 February 2025.

What were the objectives and scope of the NGSI-LD PLUGTESTS event?

NGSI-LD (ETSI GS CIM 009) is a standard for sharing and exchanging context information in a distributed environment. The key aspects of the specification include Information Model, API, JSON-LD serialization, and security/privacy. The goal of NGSI-LD was to enable interoperability among diverse context information systems and applications, supporting use cases in smart cities, IoT, and other domains.

The first ETSI NGSI-LD Plugtests event enabled implementers of the NGSI-LD protocol and the associated API to run interoperability and conformance test sessions to assess the level of interoperability of their implementation and validate the understanding of the standards.

Interoperability events play a crucial role as a cost-efficient and effective solution to achieve the goals of ensuring seamless data exchange between applications and brokers of context information.

The testing covered Interoperability Tests (GS CIM-054), Conformance Tests (GS CIM-029 and GS CIM-013), and Distributed Operations (GS CIM-053).

ETSI ISG CIM is organizing an open session entitled “Handling of Geo-Information in the Context of NGSI-LD” on January 29, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CET, online.
