ETSI’s Centre for Testing and Interoperability, with the support of ETSI’s Technical Committee for Electronic Signatures and Trust Infrastructures (TC ESI), is organising the Electronic Attestation of Attributes (EAA) Plugtests™ event, which will be held remotely from 4 May to 1 June 2026. This event is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

Scope

The aim of this event is to check the interoperability of EAA, a key component of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet). The testing will cover the ETSI Technical Specification TS 119 472-1, with a special focus on the formats built on SD-JWT VC and ISO 18013-5.

The ETSI TeraFlowSDN (TFS) community is organising the TFS#8 Hackfest from 18 November afternoon to 21 November 2025 midday. This Hackfest will be held remotely and will focus on the newest features of TFS Release 6.

Scope: 

The Hackfest will highlight the latest features of TFS Release 6 and focus on their testing and validation. In this regard, the Hackfest will foster collaboration among both new and experienced TFS users and developers, with a particular emphasis on those who are new to TFS.

This event will consist of tutorials followed by hands-on lab exercises in the form of challenges to be completed by participants. It will be dedicated to code debugging, bug fixing and feature testing within the latest TeraFlowSDN Release 6 framework.

The event will span from Tuesday to Friday with daily sessions.

Briefing sessions will be recorded, allowing everyone to follow up at their own pace after the event.

Standard-Essential Patents Policy in Light of Recent EU Policy Developments

The Centre for a Digital Society (CDS) at the European University Institute (EUI), in cooperation with ETSI, organizes the high-level conference titled Standard-Essential Patents Policy in Light of Recent EU Policy Developments. The annual ETSI User Conference on Advanced Automated Testing (UCAAT) is the most important point in the calendar of ETSI’s Technical Committee Methods for Testing and Specification (TC MTS).

ETSI organised, with the support of the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Critical Communications Association (TCCA) and the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC), the 5th FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) Plugtests event, which was hosted by the UIC in Paris, France from 27 to 31 October 2025. 

What were the objectives and scope of the 5th FRMCS Plugtests event?

Interoperability and the harmonisation of mission-critical services are key challenges in successfully deploying and operating mobile broadband communication systems across various sectors, particularly in railways.

The FRMCS Plugtests events aim to validate the understanding of FRMCS standards and the interoperability of diverse implementations through a range of test scenarios based on the 3GPP Mission Critical Services framework, explicitly focusing on railway-specific features.

This event provided a collaborative environment where vendors, operators, and railway organisations can test their solutions, ensuring that equipment from different manufacturers works together seamlessly. Achieving interoperability and standard harmonisation is essential for the effective rollout of FRMCS, as reliable communication is critical for safe, efficient, and well-coordinated railway operations.

This FRMCS Plugtests event was part of the MCX Plugtests programme.

The tests were based on 3GPP, ETSI and IETF standards, and were designed for the following equipment:

The purpose and scope of the FRMCS Plugtests event were to test independently and jointly all components of the Mobile communication System for Railways. Railway-related test cases were available in ETSI TS 103 564. Additional railway-oriented test cases focusing on GSM-R Interworking and Migration and Interconnection for MC services were also be developed for this Plugtests.

What were the advantages of attending the FRMCS Plugtests event?

The Plugtests observer program

The focus of the observer program was to examine and discuss the progress of deployment and the challenges of FRMCS. The observer program was held onsite and provided a platform to the various stake holders in railways to discuss the progress of FRMCS. 

The observer program also included interoperability demos from interested vendors, which showed how their solutions meet the FRMCS Plugtests test cases and observer scenario use cases.

This Plugtests event was organised by ETSI and was co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

The ETSI TeraFlowSDN (TFS) community is organizing the TFS#7 Hackfest on 19-22 May 2025. This Hackfest will be hosted by CTTC in their premises in Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain and will be dedicated to the integration of a Network Slice Controller (NSC) with TeraFlowSDN.

The TFS#7 Hackfest will be co-located with the TFS#7 Plenary, on 20 May 2025 and the TFS#7 Ecosystem Day, on 21 May 2025, the OSL#6 Plenary, on 22 May 2025 and the ISG F5G#22 Plenary on 20-23 May. A cross-community TFS & OSL (Openslice) & F5G (Fifth Generation Fixed Network) meeting is planned on 21 May afternoon.

The TFS#7 Hackfest is a hands-on event designed to foster collaboration among new and experienced TFS developers and users who will be working together on the integration of a Network Slice Controller (NSC) with TeraFlowSDN. The NSC is a new component in the TFS framework implementing IETF Network Slice life cycle management.

During the week, Wednesday will be dedicated to the TFS#7 Ecosystem Day, where research projects, TFS users and community members will be exchanging on TFS use cases, plans, requirements and priorities for future releases.

The TFS#7 Hackfest and Ecosystem Day will be co-located with the TFS#7 Plenary meeting as well as the SDG OSL#6 and F5G#22 Plenary meetings, making it an excellent opportunity for cross-community collaboration and networking.

ETSI, with the support of the ETSI TC MSG (Mobile Standards Group), TC EMTEL (Emergency Telecommunications) and EENA (The European Emergency Number Association), is organizing the NG (Next Generation) eCall Plugtests 2025 event, which will take place from 10^th to 13^th of June 2025 in Bonn, Germany. This event will be hosted by Deutsche Telekom.

Recent amendments of Delegated Regulations (EU) No 305/2013 and (EU) 2015/758 require deployment of NG eCall equipment from 1^st of January 2026. This event will allow to verify the interoperability of the different components that constitute the European Next Generation Emergency Communication architecture.

The NG eCall testing event aims at increasing the level of interoperability between IVS (In-Vehicle System) and PSAP (Public Service Answering Point) to provide the NG eCall service via a packet switched wireless communications network using IMS (Internet protocol Multimedia System) and 4/5G wireless access. 

Testing will focus on interoperability of the Next Generation eCall over 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) between the In-Vehicle Systems (IVS) and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP), supporting the Next Generation eCall. 

Testing will be based on the ETSI TS 103 683 (NG eCall: HLAP Interoperability Testing). NG eCall conformance tests, based on EN 17240:2024, as well as other testing activities can be provided by participating companies to complement the interoperability tests.

The event will allow to run interoperability testing for advanced emergency services scenarios, giving the priority to provide ‘real’ infrastructure from European Mobile Network Operators, especially an actual 4G network instead of a simulated one. It will help enrich the testing by bringing real use case scenario and move on to the next steps for vendors to deploy the next generation of a European Emergency Services network. This is why Deutsche Telekom will host the event and provide a real mobile network infrastructure for the testing.

In Vehicle System (IVS) and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) vendors are invited to join the event. The NG eCall Plugtests 2025 event offers the opportunity for vendors to run interoperability test sessions using predefined test descriptions.

This activity is co-funded by the European Commission and the EFTA.
