Event type: Conferences & Summits

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) together with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute – Industry Specification Group - Fifth Generation Fixed Network (ETSI ISG F5G), the Broadband Forum (BBF), and the China Communications Standards Association – Technical Committee 6 (CCSA TC6) are organizing the Fourth Joint ETSI ISG F5G, BBF, CCSA TC6 and ITU-T SG15 Workshop on "FTTR" (Fibre to the room), which will take place 10 July 2024 from 8:00-12:00 (EDT) / 14h00 to 18h00 (CEST) in Montreal, Canada. This is an in-person event with remote participation.

Introduction

This workshop intends to offer the opportunity to continue the discussion on FTTR (Fibre to the room) for all involved stakeholders. FTTR is now a hot topic in Q3/15 for in-premises networking. ETSI ISG F5G defines additional use cases, architecture, QoE requirements for FTTR. BBF starts to look at management methodology for FTTR while CCSA specifies FTTR standards according to Chinese environment. The fibre in-premises topology and functionalities of FTTR technologies may be different from the current fibre-based technologies in transport and access network. For better developing the FTTR specification, & facilitate deployment of FTTR system, it is necessary to understand the use cases & requirements, deployment challenges, and best practices of FTTR.

Target audience

Participation in the workshop is open to all regular participants of ETSI ISG F5G, BBF, CCSA TC6 and ITU-T SG15 meetings and to any individual interested in the topic who wishes to contribute to the work. Participation is free of charge.

Workshop information & registration:  Detailed event information, registration are available here.

ETSI is organizing, with the support of the European Commission (EC), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Critical Communications Association (TCCA) and the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC), the 4th FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) Plugtests event, which will be hosted by ETSI in Sophia Antipolis, France, from 1 to 5 July 2024.

GSM-R is the current standard for the railway telecommunication services developed and maintained by ETSI TC RT. With the increased need for more throughout, higher capacity and flexible deployment options, FRMCS is being developed based on 3GPP Mission Critical Services.

What are the objectives and scope of the 4th FRMCS Plugtests event?

Interoperability and Mission Critical services harmonisation are critical challenges for the successful deployment and operation of Mobile Broadband based communication Systems for various sectors, including Railways.

The concept of Mission Critical Services such as “Mission Critical Push To Talk" (MCPTT), “Mission Critical Data" (MCData) and “Mission Critical Video" (MCVideo) started with 3GPP Release-13 and is ongoing in current Releases. The Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is based on these Mission Critical Features.

The goal of the FRMCS Plugtests event Is to validate the interoperability of a variety of implementations using different test scenarios based on the 3GPP Mission Critical Services framework with focus on the rail specific features. The FRMCS Plugtests event will test railways-oriented capabilities defined in 3GPP. This FRMCS Plugtests event is part of the MCX Plugtests programme.

The tests will be based on 3GPP, ETSI and IETF standards, and are designed for the following equipment:

FRMCS capable MCX Application Servers (MCPTT, MCDATA, MCVIDEO) FRMCS capable MCX Clients (MCPTT, MCDATA, MCVIDEO) UEs and Cab Radios eMBMS Components IMS / SIP Cores Consoles and Control Rooms Test Equipments RAM Equipment (5G) Packet cores (5G)

The purpose and scope of the FRMCS Plugtests event are to test independently and jointly all components of the Mobile communication System for Railways. Railway-related test cases are available in ETSI TS 103 564. Additional railway-oriented test cases focusing on GSM-R Interworking and Migration and Interconnection for MC services will also be developed for this Plugtests.

Who can participate?

Vendors which develop and produce above mentioned equipment. All vendors must actively participate in the testing railway features. Products have to support Rail features like functional aliases, multi-talker, etc. Observers, which can be government organisations, mobile network operators, railways operators, users, agencies or regulators. Observers are welcome to help define the scope (i.e.functionality to be tested) for this event and to evaluate the tests statistics in the TRT (Test Reporting Tool).  New Vendors and Observers have to sign the Rules of Engagement and Non-Disclosure Agreement of the MCX Plugtests Programme to participate.

What are the advantages of attending the FRMCS Plugtests event?

To assess the level of interoperability of your implementations To validate your understanding of the standards To test with (many) other real implementations and demonstrate end-to-end interoperability To debug your implementation: early bug fixing, saving time and costs To promote the technology and the ecosystem

The Plugtests observer program

The focus of the observer program will be to examine and discuss the progress of deployment and the challenges of FRMCS. The observer program will be held onsite and will provide a platform to the various stake holders in railways to discuss the progress of FRMCS.

The observer program will also include interoperability demos from interested vendors, which will show how their solutions meet the FRMCS Plugtests test cases and observer scenario use cases.

PLUGTESTS events are organized by ETSI and are co-funded by the European Commission (EC) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

Unleashing the Digital Services Opportunity

The Davos of Telecoms returns to the Fairmont Windsor Park on 5-6 June for two days of unparalleled CSP-led discussion and VIP networking.

This year’s DSP Leaders World Forum theme, ‘Unleashing the digital services opportunity’, will examine what CSPs can do to accelerate the evolution of the network to support the provision of innovative digital services and meet the requirements of their customers. It will also look at how best to assume an economically viable leadership position through delivery and operation.

Across eight sessions, each co-hosted by a specially invited guest CTO, the event will look at the dynamics of the digital services sector and the likely connectivity requirements for the years ahead, as well as explore key elements of network technology and operations by investigating the part they will play in supporting the profitable provision of digital services.

ETSI is thrilled to be a supporting organization of DSP Leaders World Forum this year again.

ETSI is pleased to support the 2nd edition of Bharat 6G 2024 International Conference & Exhibition, scheduled on 15th May 2024 at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi.

India has been actively involved in the development of 6G technology and has played a key role in framing the International Telecommunication Union's framework for 6G, recently finalised by the UN Telecom agency. The Department of Telecommunications' efforts have led to the adoption of connectivity, intelligence, and sustainability in 6G technology. India's Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has released the Bharat 6G Mission manifesto, which aims to position India as a leading supplier of advanced telecom technologies. The mission focuses on collaboration between government bodies, industry players, and academia, and plans to conduct pilot-scale demonstrations and validations through field trials across various use cases to contribute to national and international standards starting around 2025.

The potential impact of 6G is significant, as it has the power to reshape human interactions, machine communications, and data interactions. The integration of AI/ML and exploration of quantum technologies will be crucial in driving innovation in sectors like education, agriculture, and healthcare. The establishment of a seamless integrated optical and wireless network, with a focus on rural areas, is necessary. India's proactive measures in the development of 6G technologies will position the country as a global leader in the field. Keeping in mind Indian Government initiative on 6G, Bharat Exhibitions is pleased to present the 2nd edition of Bharat 6G 2024 International Conference & Exhibition scheduled on 15th May 2024 at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi.
