ETSI, with the support of TC ATTM TM mWT (millimetre Wave Transmission), is organizing the fifth ETSI mWT SDN (Software Defined Networking) Plugtests™ event, which will take place from 10 to 14 November 2025 at ETSI in Sophia Antipolis, France. This event is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

The format of the event will be lab tests conducted at ETSI.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF THE 5TH mWT PLUGTESTS EVENT?

This edition of the Plugtests event will focus on proving the ability of Software Defined Networking (SDN) to operate from an end-to-end service point of view.

Building upon the previous four editions, which focused primarily on hardware inventory and service use cases, this edition will also include basic performance monitoring and alarm/event reporting functionalities*.

The scope of the event covers four use cases:

Network and Service Auto-discovery Service Provisioning Performance Analysis & Prediction Smart Alarm Analysis & Fault Prediction.

*Based on the concepts outlined in ETSI GR mWT 025 V1.1.1 (2021-03) - Wireless Backhaul Network and Services Automation: SDN SBI YANG models

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Any microwave (MW) and millimetre wave (mmW) equipment vendor is welcome to participate and should provide a full domain, including the related MW and/or mmW equipment.

The event is also open to telecom operators wishing to understand the benefits of the SDN technology.

This Plugtests event is organized by ETSI and co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

UCAAT 2023 will be hosted by Nokia in the Polytechnic Timisoara University, Romania, on 14-16 November.

Overview

The annual ETSI User Conference on Advanced Automated Testing (UCAAT) is the most important date in the calendar of ETSI’s Technical Committee Methods for Testing and Specification (TC MTS).

Rapid technical advances in application areas such as information and communication technology, industrial automation, transportation (automotive, avionics, rail), enterprise information technology, healthcare, cybersecurity, and biotechnology, as well as shifting operational landscapes such as DevOps practices and machine learning techniques applied to software development are ever increasing the demands on testing.

UCAAT 2023: Optimizing the Value of Automated Testing

The UCAAT 2023 theme is focused on maximizing the benefits and outcomes of automated testing. The complexity of modern software and telecommunication systems is constantly increasing. The intersection with AI and machine learning technologies is delivering to users unprecedented experiences in all areas (business, entertainment, etc.)

Users' expectations on the quality of software, products and services is increasing as well, making effective and efficient testing more and more important overall, but at the same time also more challenging to perform and manage.

Identifying the best techniques, processes and practices to improve and optimize how systems are tested can give a competitive advantage and can even make the difference between the success and failure of a product or service.

Emphasizing the role of collaboration between development and testing teams in maximizing the benefits of automated testing can lead to better results and effective communication with a shared understanding of testing goals and processes.

That is why UCAAT 2023 aims at discussing all aspects of optimizing the value of automated testing of software enabled systems.

Target audience

The event is of particular interest for:

Test engineers, designers or test automation experts Engineers working in test specification, automation, DevOps and RPA Software developers or architects Project leaders or managers in digital transformation Test tool or service providers Test and quality assurance analysts Academics and researchers in testing

Important dates

Call for Presentation Deadline: 8 May 2023 Notification of Acceptation: 29 May 2023 Programme online: 15 June 2023 Presentation submission: 15 October 2023

ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability and the TeraFlowSDN Community are organizing the TFS#3 Hackfest on 16-17 October 2023 and the Ecosystem Day on 18 October 2023. The events will be hosted by CTTC in their premises in Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain, and co-located with the TFS#3 Plenary.

Scope

This Hackfest will be dedicated to the use of P4 in TeraFlowSDN, starting with an overview, followed by a gradual walkthrough of an end-to-end P4 based demo, then a more interactive session. Sessions will be led by key members of the TeraFlowSDN community. Participants will be able to build their own hands on experience of P4 forwarding with TeraFlowSDN: deployment, configuration, operation, monitoring, update, etc...

ETSI’s annual flagship event on Cyber Security, the ETSI Security Conference, took place face-to-face from 16 to 19 October 2023, in ETSI, Sophia Antipolis, France and gathered more than 200 people.

This year the event focused on Security Research and Global Security Standards in action The event also considered wider aspects such as Attracting the next generation of Cyber Security standardization professionals and supporting SMEs.

Meet & Network with the Community

This exclusive face-to-face event provided an exceptional opportunity for the security community to come together to exchange with experts, network with peers, and share facts and opinions around the subject of cybersecurity standardization.

ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability and the TeraFlowSDN Community are organizing the second TFS Hackfest on 20-21 June 2023. The event will be held face-to-face during the IEEE NetSoft Conference in Madrid, Spain.

Participation in ETSI Hackfests is free and open to all upon Registration. You are most welcome to register to NetSoft2023 as well, though it is not mandatory.

Scope

This edition will feature TeraFlow Release 2, allowing participants to get hands-on experience with TeraFlowSDN.

The event will take the form of a competition with the objective of integrating ETSI TeraFlowSDN Controller Release 2 with the ContainerLab environment.
ContainerLab is an environment that enables deploying versatile lab network topologies where each node can run a containerized Network Operating System, allowing to establish and test connectivity services traversing the network devices.
Participants will be grouped in teams and each team will collaborate to complete the following list of challenges (tentative):

Deploy a ContainerLab environment together with ETSI TeraFlowSDN controller Onboard the network devices emulated with ContainerLab in TeraFlowSDN Establish packet connectivity services through ContainerLab network devices Monitor the packet traffic on ContainerLab devices, e.g., through gNMI, and plot the data in TFS's L3 Monitoring Grafana dashboard

Each team is expected to focus on a specific ContainerLab network device kind, e.g., IPInfusion OcNOS, Nokia SR Linux, SONiC, etc. Some ETSI TFS experts will be around to help you and resolve your questions during the hacking sessions.
NOTE: It is under study the possibility of involving P4 in the challenge through SONiC (To Be Decided).
