ETSI, in cooperation with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), is organizing a NG112 Emergency Communications with NG eCall Plugtests event to be held in Malaga, Spain with the support of ETSI TC EMTEL and TC MSG. This event will be hosted by the University of Malaga from 30 September to 4 October 2024.

The concept of "Next Generation 112" (NG112) has been identified as a potential answer to the increasing requirements and demands of content-rich emergency calling. The interoperability of such NG112 with NG eCall products and services has not been tested in Europe previously, leading to this ideal opportunity.

This NG112 Emergency Communications Plugtests event will see a testing campaign based on the use cases developed by ETSI and EENA and is a unique chance for vendors of emergency communication equipment to test their product against different implementations and scenarios.

Please note that the event is covered by a Non-Disclosure Agreement which sets out the terms of a fair and non-discriminatory participation, i.e. vendors are free to publish their attendance to the event, and interoperability results shall be treated as confidential information. 

The benefits of participation for a vendor include a chance to test even early implementations in a neutral environment, to validate their understanding of next generation emergency calling requirements as well as to communicate about and promote the technology.
An event not to be missed, if you want to be sure your products and implementations are fit for the next generation emergency calling requirements.

ETSI, with the support of the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Critical Communications Association (TCCA), the European Utilities Telecom Council (EUTC) and the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC), is organizing the eighth MCX PlugtestsTM. This Plugtests will be hosted by the University of Malaga, Spain, from 9 to 13 October 2023. 

What are the objectives and scope of the 8th MCX Plugtests event?

The concept of Mission Critical Services such as “Mission Critical Push To Talk" (MCPTT), “Mission Critical Data" (MCData) and “Mission Critical Video" (MCVideo) started with 3GPP Release-13 and is ongoing in current Releases. The Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is based on these Mission Critical Features.

The goal of this MCX Plugtests event is to validate the interoperability of a variety of implementations using different scenarios based on 3GPP Mission Critical Services. The MCX Plugtests event will also test, flexible group communications, MCData IP Connectivity and complex emergency call handling. The MCX Plugtests event will, besides mission critical features which have been tested in past events over 4G network, be extended to test Mission Critical Services over 5G test network. Specific focus will be put on inter-system communications including Off-Network, IWF and Inter-MCX scenarios. The tests are based on 3GPP, ETSI and IETF standards and are designed for:

MCS Application Servers (MCPTT, MCDATA, MCVIDEO) MCS Clients (MCPTT, MCDATA, MCVIDEO) FRMCS Applications using MCX Framework eMBMS Components IMS / SIP Cores Consoles and Control Rooms connected to MCX servers MCS Test Equipments RAN equipment (4G and 5G) Packet cores (4G and 5G) UEs (User Equipment), Cab Radios, embedded equipment, Rugged Handheld Phones TETRA and P25 systems with IWF

This event will feature tests with 4G and 5G radio equipment (gNBs, eNBs, 5GCs, EPCs, UEs) with Unicast and Multicast support and will also allow Over-The-Top (OTT) testing of Mission Critical Servers and Clients as well as included tests of railways-oriented capabilities. Observers are welcome to help define the scope (i.e. functionality to be tested) for this event and to evaluate the tests statistics in the TRT (Test Reporting Tool).

In parallel to the testing, we are planning to organise an observer round table discussion, observer program and interoperability demos. The focus of the observer round table discussion and program is to examine and discuss the progress of deployment and the challenges in testing of the Mission Critical Services for Public Safety and Public Transport. The observer round table discussion and program will be held onsite during the event.

The interoperability demos will be demonstrated by the interested vendors showing interoperability of their equipment by showcasing the MCX Plugtests test cases and observer scenario use cases.

This Plugtests took place from the 7th to 11th of November 2022 and was hosted by the University of Malaga, Spain. 

Important: We assure our participants, members and partners that ETSI is monitoring the situation of the Coronavirus pandemic very closely and will ensure all necessary initiatives will be taken in accordance with the instructions of the local government authorities. We recommend flexible booking of hotel / flights accordingly.

What were the objectives and scope of the Plugtests event?

The ETSI Seminar is run once a year, to provide an intensive course on ETSI, its organization, structure, ways of working and related subjects. It is targeted at those who are new to ETSI or those who need to develop a deeper understanding of how to work effectively in ETSI. 

Although designed primarily for newcomers to the Institute, the fact that ETSI is constantly evolving means that even those individuals with an extensive experience of the Institute and its work find it beneficial to attend. The Seminar is free of charge to attend and is open to all, members and non-members alike.

The ETSI Seminar is an important step in the orientation programme for new members. It facilitates their active participation in ETSI, 3GPP or oneM2M - a must if your organization has just joined ETSI. It is essential also for new delegates who have recently started to participate in ETSI work. In addition it also is an opportunity to meet key personnel in the ETSI Secretariat.

As well as describing the structure and organization of the Institute and the partnership projects, the seminar provides a detailed look at ETSI's on-line services and other tools for electronic working, which have dramatically improved the efficiency of the standards-making process. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPPTM) and the oneM2M Partnership Project are also covered.

Half of the seminar is focused on the ETSI overview, organization, structure, governance, funding, decision making and other high-level issues, and half covers the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively as a delegate in an ETSI standards meeting.

What are the objectives and scope of the PLUGTESTS event?

C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) is an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) service using mobile communication technology for direct communication as well as network communication between vehicles, from vehicle to pedestrian and from vehicle to infrastructure.

The 3rd C-V2X PLUGTESTS event enabled On-Board-Units (OBUs), Roadside-Units (RSUs) and Public key infrastructure (PKIs) vendors to run interoperability test sessions to assess the level of interoperability of their implementation and validate the understanding of the standards. The goal of interoperability testing is to check that implementations of devices with different form factors can work together and provide the functionalities specified in the standards. This edition of the Plugtests event also focused on testing direct communication between devices also including ITS Security features (EU ITS Security Policy and EU ITS Certificate Policy) in order to support industry in the C-ITS deployment in the common single European trust domain as defined by the European Commission in the Release 1 of the document "Security Policy & Governance Framework for Deployment and Operation of European Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS)".

The week-long face to face event provided an opportunity to test C-V2X devices, in both lab and field environments at the DEKRA site in Klettwitz, DE.

The test cases were mainly based on ETSI ITS standards and 3GPP test specifications. In addition to test scenarios from the first and second C-V2X PLUGTESTS events, new use cases were added for the lab and field-based interoperability testing.

This event allowed testing in the ITS ecosystem under real life conditions from infrastructure to applications in vehicles, thus demonstrating interoperability of C-V2X equipment. A unique chance for solution providers to maximize the effectiveness of their ITS solutions in test environments. Test Equipment vendors had the possibility to run the test sessions during the event.

Highway operators, automobile manufacturers and government bodies/authorities were welcome as observers. Observers were able to evaluate the test statistics in the TRT (Test Reporting Tool) provided the Rules of Engagement and Non-Disclosure Agreement of the ITS PLUGTESTS Programme have been signed.

The C-V2X PLUGTESTS were combined with an associated C-V2X Workshop, which allowed to present and discuss updates on the latest developments.

ETSI PLUGTESTS activities are co-funded by the European Commission and European Free Trade Association.

ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability and the OSM Community organized a new OSM Hackfest from January 24 to 28, 2022. The event was run remotely, allowing participants to join the hands-on sessions from their home or office.

Participation in OSM Hackfests is free and open to all upon Registration.

Scope

This edition was featuring OSM Release ELEVEN and focused on users who are new to OSM, taking the form of tutorials and hands-on lab exercises to be completed by participants.

The event lasted the entire week, with 3h daily sessions from 2:00 to 5: 00 pm CET.

Sessions were recorded, allowing everyone to follow them up at their own pace after the event.

The webinar will start with a short introduction to radar technology, topologies and latest technological trends. There will be a short presentation of factors in radar detection and signal processing, environmental clutter and interference issues. Finally there will a presentation of some of the challenges in practical verification testing of the required parameters.

ETSI is organizing, with the support of the European Commission (EC), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Critical Communications Association (TCCA) and the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC), the sixth MCX PLUGTESTSTM. This Plugtests will take place from 8th to 19th November 2021 as a hybrid event, including remote and assisted on-site testing.

During the week from 8th to 19th November 2021, testing will be done remotely like in previous MCX Plugtests, using the existing permanent ETSI MCX remote lab testing facilities to conduct online testing. In addition, from 8th to 12th November 2021, vendors will have the possibility to send their radio equipment (UEs, eNBs) to University of Malaga, Spain, where it can interoperate using live LTE connectivity via remote access and with the on-site assistance of the University of Malaga’s experts. For the equipment sent to University of Malaga, the University of Malaga’s experts team will operate the equipment on behalf of the Vendor or the Vendor can access the equipment remotely. Alternatively, if the COVID-19 situation permits, one member of the Vendor’s team may be allowed onsite per equipment for testing on LTE network.
