Sophia Antipolis, 29 June 2015

ETSI welcomes the support by the European Council of 25 and 26 June 2015 for the Digital Single Market and the recognition that this initiative will greatly contribute to innovation, growth and jobs and spur the European economy as a whole.

As highlighted in the Council conclusions, the impact of the Digital Single Market on the EU economy will only materialize if all relevant stakeholders and factors come together to design the prerequisite legal, technical and regulatory enablers.

ETSI acknowledges in particular that the Council emphasises the essential role of standardization to fulfil the objectives of the Digital Single Market, and the necessity to identify and deliver rapidly on key ICT standardization priorities.

ETSI is one of the three Standards Development Organizations recognized by the European Union. Its mission is to produce state-of-the-art ICT standards to support the European policy and regulatory framework on the one hand and EU competitiveness on global digital markets on the other.

With its membership of more than 800 organizations from industry, administrations and academia coming from 64 countries, a network of partner organizations across the 5 continents and a work program that addresses many of the key areas of the Digital Single Market strategy, ETSI is well placed to appreciate the emphasis put by the Council conclusions on the importance of timely and effective standardization.

In support of the Council conclusions and the key ICT standardization priorities, ETSI is committed to continue and further develop the effective co-operation with European institutions to ensure its share of the work in fulfilling the objectives of the Digital Single Market strategy.
