ETSI TC TCCE, in partnership with the TETRA + Critical Communications Association (TCCA) and with the support of the European Commission, was pleased to organise the 1st MCPTT Plugtests™ event that took place from 19 to 23 June 2017 in the ETSI premises, in Sophia-Antipolis, France.

The concept of "Mission Critical Push To Talk" (MCPTT) has been specified in 3GPP Release 13. Interoperability and MCPTT service harmonization are critical challenges to be taken into account for the successful deployment and operation of Mission Critical Communication.

The interoperability of MCPTT products and services has not been tested in Europe previously, leading to this ideal opportunity.

What were the objectives and scope?
The goal of the MCPTT Plugtests™ event was to validate the interoperability of a variety of different solutions on the market using different scenarios and test cases. The tests were based on 3GPP, ETSI and IETF standards, and were designed for:

  • UE vendors
  • EPS vendors
  • MCPTT server system vendors
  • SIP/IMS Core vendors
  • Control Room vendors
  • MCPTT test solution vendors

The purpose and scope of the MCPTT Plugtests™ event were to trial independently and jointly all components of the MCPTT communication chain such as:

  • SIP Registration
  • Authentication
  • Affiliation
  • Group Call
  • Floor Control

What were the advantages of attending the 1st MCPTT Plugtests™ event?

  • To assess the level of interoperability of your implementations
  • To validate your understanding of the standards
  • To test with (many) other real implementations and demonstrate end-to-end interoperability
  • To debug your implementation: early bug fixing, saving time
  • To promote the technology and the ecosystem

This activity was supported by the European Commission.

ETSI is located at:
650, route des Lucioles
06921 Sophia Antipolis
