ETSI co-hosts Global IPv6 Transition Test Event

ETSI Headquarters, Sophia Antipolis, France – 6 June 2012

The BII Group, in co-operation with ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute and the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), will host the 1st Global IPv6 Transition Test Event from 12-15 November 2012 in Beijing. This 4-day test event will evaluate the status of vendor support for the various methods of transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6 networks. This event is supported by the IETF, the IPv6 Forum and the Broadband Forum.

Several methods exist for transitioning between IPv4 networks and IPv6 networks, such as DS-lite, 6Rd, NAT64/DNS64, IVI, 4over6, PNAT etc. The event will focus on testing these methods in end to end configurations. The event will attract network equipment vendors, specialists in interworking and network interconnection, as well as Internet Service Providers who are in the process of migrating their networks to IPv6.

The goal of this event is to verify the maturity and readiness of IPv6 transition technologies and to promote the transition and adoption of IPv6 worldwide.

'Testing transition mechanisms for interoperability is a non-trivial issue,' according to Latif Ladid, President of the IPv6 Forum.

Liu Dong, Chair of the China IPv6 Council and of the IPv6 Enabled Program, commented: 'There should be a clear vision in the maturity of IPv6 transition for ISPs and Government.'

Anthony Wiles, Director of ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability, commented 'Planning for transition is not enough. ETSI has long recognized the necessity of testing and validation, and devotes significant resources to this through its Plugtests interoperability programme.'

More information about this event will be published at www.ipv6enabled.cn/En/, or can be obtained by contacting Davey Song, Senior Researcher and Test Manager in BII Group in China, at +8610-58678188-239 or [email protected].
