ETSI IoT/M2M Workshop 2016 featuring the Smart World

ETSI's IoT / M2M workshop has become a must-attend for anyone involved in IoT standards, whether at IoT standards management / technology roadmap and planning, IoT standards development, or IoT standards users and followers. The Workshop is scheduled for 15-17 November 2016.

The workshop will be preceeded on 14 November, by a Developer's tutorial starting at 10am  and a session on policies "When Standards Support Policies: the case of IOT and the digitization of industry" starting at 14:30.

Focus on oneM2M Release 2

This year, we will focus on oneM2M Release 2, published shortly before the workshop.
We'll take a specific look at security and semantic interoperability, two aspects of Release 2 which have received particular attention. These will be considered in the context of ETSI's activities on Smart Cities and Smart Appliances, in ETSI's SmartM2M technical committee.
We will also take a closer look at the European Commission's Alliance for IoT Innovation (AIOTI) initiative, the Smart Cities Large Scale Pilot projects and the work delivered by ETSI TC SmartM2M's task force on IoT Standards landscaping and IoT European Large Scale Pilots (LSP) gap analysis.

A tutorial addressed to developers will take place before the workshop on Monday 14 November.

The spirit of this new initiative is to create an interactive and stimulating exchange platform for developers, allowing many opportunities of hands on exercises.

The aim of the tutorial is to address the following:

  • Presentation and Use of oneM2M open source implementations for Common Service Entities (CSEs)

Mahdi Ben Alaya, Sensinov
Mahdi Ben Alaya, PhD, is an international expert in IoT and M2M architectures. He is the Founder and CEO of Sensinov. He obtained a Ph.D in Networks, Telecommunications, Systems and Architectures from the Federal University of Toulouse and the LAAS-CNRS laboratory in France. He serves as Vice Chairman of the oneM2M Testing Group. He is co-founder and technical manager of the open source project Eclipse OM2M at the Eclipse foundation. He presented IoT tutorials in summer schools and universities worldwide including France, Taiwan, and Korea. He initiated and managed several R&D projects at LAAS-CNRS and Sensinov including ITEA2-USENET, ITEA2-A2NETS, and H2020-LSP5-AUTOPILOT. He has authored more than 20 refereed publications in international journals and conferences, as well as more than 50 contributions to IoT standards.

Josef Baumeister, EEBus Initiative e.V.
Josef Baumeister studied electrical engineering in Germany.
He disposes of about 30 years of technical and management experience in mobile- and cordless-telecommunication as well as broadband technology.
Since 2011 he is working with BSH Home Appliances and is responsible for Smart Home and Smart Appliances standardization.
Since 2016 he is Managing Director of the EEBus Initiative e.V. as well.
Josef Baumeister is a member of Smart Home & -Grid standardization bodies in IEC, CENELEC and DKE as well as in national and international Smart-Home & -Grid associations and European Commission bodies.

Sébastien Bolle, Orange Labs
Sébastien Bolle is a researcher in the area of Digital and Smart Home and more generally Internet of Things. Graduated from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne in 1992, he joined Orange Labs (formerly France Telecom R&D) in 1993 to work first on network management and related standards, afterwards on IS and software architecture projects till 2002. From 2003 to 2009, he held various responsibilities in Orange subsidiaries: Euralba (software and web based architecture) and Almerys (health projects). He went back to Orange Labs in 2010 and since he is involved in research in the field of Smart Home and more generally Internet of Things. His work and projects are related to open architecture, semantic interoperability and device management. He also has been involved in collaborative projects (Open The Box) and in Orange standardization team for Home Gateway Initiative and oneM2M contributions.

Martin Burns, NIST
Dr. Martin Burns is a researcher at NIST. With his background in IEC and ANSI standards development for semantic models and data exchange, he has facilitated the development of the underlying Green Button technologies which define energy usage information and APIs in the Smart Grid in the US and internationally. He co-chairs the data interoperability working group for the NIST led Framework for Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and is a key contributor to NISTs architecture for federated testbeds for investigating the behaviors of CPS. Marty is currently leading the IES-City Framework project for NIST. The iES-City Framework is an international collaboration with a goal of providing analysis that will help encourage convergence for interoperability of the Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), and Smart Cities.

Christophe Colinet, City of Bordeaux
Christophe COLINET joined the City of Bordeaux in 2005 as head of operational maintenance for infrastructure City's servers before creating, in 2008, a new R&D service dedicated to innovative technical solutions adapted to the context of the City's information system, and then in 2012 to take over the digital territory management.
Since January 2016, teams in charge of digital activities within the City of Bordeaux and the Bordeaux Urban Community merged into a single branch in charge of digital for Bordeaux metropole.
Christophe became the Smart City project manager for this new directorate, coordinating European projects and more specifically “Sharing Cities”, a 2015 H2020 SCC1 lighthouse project, for the metropolis.
Otherwise, since 2013, Christophe is the Bordeaux representative within the Eurocities KSF forum. Since the beginning of 2016, he chairs the “Standards and interoperability working group” for this forum. 
He is the EG4U secretary (EG4U: The European non-governmental organisation (NGO) of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Users). This NGO, dedicated to energy management & waste monitoring, has been created early December, 2015, by ICT(Information & communications technologies) users, members of ETSI Industry Specification Group (ISG) called Operational energy Efficiency for Users (OEU), based in Sophia Antipolis (France)Since the 9th June 2016, he chairs an ETSI ATTM SDMC (Sustainable Digital Multiservice for Cities) working group dedicated to provide technical specifications for the industry in accordance with city’s needs.

Paul Copping, Digital Greenwich
Paul Copping is Chief Innovation Officer at Digital Greenwich, serving the Royal Borough of Greenwich, population 270,000. His role is to engage with industrial partners to deploy integrated technology solutions that will result in more innovative, agile and cheaper services for Greenwich citizens. Paul is currently working on connected and autonomous vehicles; 5G wireless; digital currency; and a collaborative smart city procurement framework. Paul has an MBA in Marketing from Cass Business School and an MA in Spanish and French from the University of Cambridge. His earlier career background is in telecoms (Nortel, BT) and mobility (Transport Research Laboratory) with a focus on corporate development and innovation management.

Nicolas Damour, Sierra Wireless
Nicolas Damour is Senior Manager for Business and Innovation at Sierra Wireless, where he has been working for the last six years. He holds a telecommunications engineering degree and a master degree in innovation management. Before Sierra Wireless, he has worked in the IT and telecommunications industry in North America and in Europe, notably for Nortel Networks and for the Kapsch group. At Sierra Wireless, he is responsible for M2M standardization activities and for advanced projects with partners and prospective customers to keep exploring new ideas and solutions in the M2M industry. Nicolas is also chairman of the architecture working group at oneM2M and member of the board of directors at the Open Mobile Alliance. He also attends other standardization and related industry fora such as the 3GPP, the GSM Association or the European Smart Metering Industry Group. He is currently based in Toulouse, France.

Laura Daniele, TNO
Laura Daniele is a scientist in the area of ontology engineering and semantic technologies. She graduated in Electronic Engineering from the University of Cagliari (Italy) and developed her MSc thesis at the University of Twente (NL) by means of the European Socrates/Erasmus program. In 2011, she obtained her PhD from the University of Twente on model-driven development of context-aware mobile applications. Since 2011 she works at TNO, the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research. Her interest is to provide data integration solutions to enable semantic interoperability among various organizations that need to share data, but use different terminologies, standards and/or heterogeneous IT systems. Her research focuses on the application of semantic technologies in the Internet of Things, especially in the Smart Home environment. Laura has developed a number of ontologies in several domains ( and is the creator of the Smart Appliances REFerence ontology (SAREF) for the European Commission and standardized by ETSI. Laura is active in several European research projects and has authored many international publications.

Emmanuel Darmois, Commledge
Emmanuel has over thirty years of experience in various positions in academics and in the ICT industry. He has started as a Computer Science professor and researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems. For over 20 years, he has been working with Alcatel-Lucent in various positions in Research, R&D and operational business. ??In his last position there, he has been VP Standards: this is where he caught the 'standards virus' that turns any reasonable engineer into a standards propagandist. He is ETSI Vice-Chairman of the Board, and chair of the Operational Coordination Group. He is very active Smart Grids (convener of the Methodology work group in the Smart Grids Coordination Group), Smart Cities, and Cloud Computing (he has been the coordinator within ETSI for the Cloud Standards Coordination initiative). He is the co-founder and CEO of CommLedge. His current work includes the coordination of Cloud Standards Coordination Phase 2, on behalf of ETSI and the European Commission.

Francisco da Silva – ETSI Board member, Huawei Technologies Sweden
Francisco is since 2009 a Senior Councillor for Standardization and Technical Regulation in Huawei Technologies Sweden. Before he had been with Portugal Telecom. Francisco was Chairman of ETSI General Assembly and of ETSI Board. He is now participating in the ETSI delegations of Project Coordination Group of 3GPP and in the Steering Committee of oneM2M. Before. He has also been Vice‐ Chairman of EURESCOM and member of the ETNO Steering Committee. One of his focus has for a long time been the road between Research and Standardization. Nowadays, in the ETSI Board, he focus also on issues like Open Source and IoT including the “Smart Appliances Initiative” and its Reference Ontology (SAREF), an EC project developed in collaboration with ETSI.

Keith Dickerson, Climate Associates Ltd
Keith Dickerson has played an active role in the ICT industry for over 30 years. He is currently a Director of Climate Associates Ltd which provides advice to major companies on Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Mitigation issues, especially where international standards are an important consideration. 
Keith has been a member of the ETSI Board for over 13 years, leading their Green Agenda and Smart Cities work, and is a rapporteur for work items on energy efficiency in several technical committees. Keith is also a Vice Chair of ITU-T Study Group 5 “Environment & Climate Change” developing global standards on topics such as carbon reduction, energy efficiency and e-waste.
In 2015, Keith was appointed one of the leaders of the ETSI Board strategy topic on Internet of Things (IoT) and leads their activities on Smart Cities. He is also a full partner in the EC Horizon 2020 IoT project VICINITY “Open virtual neighbourhood network to connect intelligent buildings and smart objects” and leads their standardization work package.

Stephen Doyle, GSMA
Stephen Doyle is Technical Architect for GSMA covering the topic of IoT and Big Data. A graduate in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick in the UK he has worked for a range of IT and Telecoms companies comprising equipment manufacturers, mobile operators, and application/ service developers. Since 1994 Stephen has worked in the Mobile Industry mainly in the areas of applications and services and is particularly experienced in the definition, development and usage of web/mobile APIs. For GSMA he has worked as technical lead for APIs under the OneAPI initiative, and the API Exchange platform and related technologies that enables the Mobile Connect initiative.

Bart De Lathouwer, Open Geospatial Consortium
Since 2001, Mr. De Lathouwer has worked first as European liaison to the geospatial division of Autodesk and later as Autodesk's Product Manager for Server Technologies. In this role, he also served as member company representative to the OGC. As a company representative, he started the OGC CAD-GIS Interoperability Working Group (which evolved into the OGC 3DIM Domain Working Group). Bart works on the standards used for Earth Observation, Linked Data, Internet of Things and Smart Cities – where he leads 2 initiatives: Future City Pilot Phase, a pilot in the built environment and ESPRESSO, a H2020 support action to identify use of standards in Smart Cities as well to identify a reference architecture. All this is close collaboration with other standard developing organizations, within Europe and World Wide.

Omar Elloumi, Nokia Bell Labs and CTO Group
Omar Elloumi, Nokia Bell Labs and CTO group, Member of the Program Committee. He is the current chair of oneM2M Technical Plenary after having led the oneM2M Architecture group delivering the first release of specifications.   Omar joined Alcatel‐Lucent in 1999 and held several positions including research, strategy and system architecture. He holds a Ph. D. degree in computer science

François Ennesser, Global PlatformFrancois Ennesser has over 20 years of experience in the embedded systems and security industry and has been working on Machine-to-machine communication for nearly 10 years. Representing Gemalto in M2M standardization, he has been an active contributor in several organizations working on M2M and IoT security including GlobalPlatform and GSMA, and is chairing the Security Working Group of the oneM2M global standardization partnership, striving to anticipate the technical evolutions affecting trust, security and privacy along with the migration from business-centric M2M use cases to consumer driven IoT applications. He also participated in several regulatory Expert Groups and mandate work initiated by the European Commission on the topics of smart metering and smart grids.

Nampuraja Enose, Infosys Ltd
Nampuraja Enose is a Principal Consultant with the Advanced Engineering Group at Infosys Limited, focusing on innovation at the adoption of emerging technologies in core engineering industries. This includes the focused initiative on Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet, enabled by the convergence of IT and OT (operation technology) in cyber-physical systems.
As a part of I4.0 strategy he currently manages the Infosys’ research relationship with FIR (Institute for Industrial Management) at RWTH Aachen University and the I4.0 Maturity Index development with acatech, the German National Academy of Science and Engineering. He is also actively involved in initiating co-creation engagements with the clients and the academia, in bringing new perspectives on innovation.
Nampu brings 16 years of research and industry experience and prior to Infosys, he was an Engineering and Design manager with ABB Limited.

Volker W. Fricke, IBM Deutschland Management & Business Support GmbH
Volker Fricke works at IBM Germany as Technical Relations Executive, Europe. He represents IBM in international and national standardization bodies, such as ISO, W3C in the domain of „Connected Vehicle", eMobility and Co-operative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) for autonomous vehicles.
He leads IBM involvement in European Horizon 2020 research projects in the domain of electric and green vehicles. He will be the technical lead for the upcoming Green Vehicle "NeMo" project, starting in October 2016.
He is member of the IBM Technical Expert Council; a group of technical leader for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the German Association for Computer Science (GI).
He holds various patents and publications in the domain of Internet-Of-Things. He is contributing and participating at conferences in the area of "Connected Vehicle".
He holds a diploma degree in electronics and communications engineering from the University of Applied Science in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Christophe Gossard, John Deere
He started his career as a computer sciences engineer in 1996 in France. He was assigned in 2000 as an internal SAP consultant for 3 year at the Deere Headquarters in the US. He managed the warehousing systems BW in relation with various SAP modules. During his assignment, he completed his background with a MBA from Tippie Management School at the University of Iowa.
At his return in France in 2003, he managed the Sales Engineering department for 7 years in Europe, South Africa, and South Korea supporting John Deere distributors.
In 2010, he started to work with the European commission through trade associations as the European Emission Coordinator for the company. He participated to discussions on European directives, and on legal interpretation of European provisions.
Since 2012, he is the Regional Strategic Standards Manager at the Regional Center in Mannheim, Germany, in charge of regulatory subjects. He is providing support for the relevant regional issues for strategic standards and regional governmental affairs.

Wolfgang Granzow, Qualcomm
Wolfgang Granzow received his Diploma and Dr.-Ing. degrees in Communications Engineering from the Technical University Berlin in 1984 and 1990, respectively. He joined Qualcomm Germany in 2003, and is now a Senior Director of Technology at Qualcomm's R&D center in Nuremberg, Germany. Wolfgang performs radio systems and communications network R&D, including network architecture and protocol design. He is presently engaged in IoT R&D projects at Qualcomm and an active contributor to oneM2M standards development with focus on the oneM2M core protocol and security architecture. In his industry career of more than 25 years, he has executed and supervised numerous research and systems engineering projects in the area of mobile communications and contributed substantially to development and standardization of 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation mobile systems. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Wolfgang held research positions at Ericsson, Philips, and AT&T Bell Labs.

Owen Griffin, InterDigital
Owen Griffin (OG) is a senior software manager at InterDigital Europe where he is leading a team in the development and deployment of oneTRANSPORT - an Internet of Things platform for UK Local Authorities. The oneTRANSPORT platform aggregates existing live data from Local Authorities and from new sensor deployments to create an open marketplace for applications and data services, such as analytics and data formatting. oneTRANSPORT uses the oneM2M standard to aggregate and expose a uniform interface for diverse data sets brokering relationships between mobile applications and sensor deployments.

Shane He, Nokia Networks
Dr. Shane HE is a senior specialist on IoT standardization and vertical industry enablement at Nokia Networks.
She received her Ph.D degree in Information Sensing Technology from Beijing Institute of Technology in 2010. Now she is concentrating on standardization and research work of IoT services, platforms, and key technologies, her interests include 5G, IoT/M2M architecture, lightweight protocols, services and applications, as well as vertical E2E solutions, etc. She is experienced on global standardization work such as in IETF, oneM2M, ITU-T, and currently takes on some rapporteurship in oneM2M and ITU-T SG20. Prior to joining Nokia Networks, she also has the background of vertical industries, and investigates various industrial architectures and value-chain for the IoT market, such as smart manufactory and automotive.

Jaeho Kim, KETI
Jaeho Kim is a managerial researcher in Embedded Software Convergence Research Center at the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), South Korea. He is leading the research team for IoT and M2M Platform in KETI and also several research projects related to IoT and smart city. His expertise covers wireless sensor networks, medium access protocols, and Internet of Things platforms. Patricia Martigne has been working in the Innovation, Marketing & Technology Division of Orange, as Standardization Manager for IoT Platforms and Services for about 4 years. Her current role in M2M Standardization includes active participation in oneM2M MAS (Management, Abstraction, and Semantics), in particular as a coordinator for the task of continuing HGI (Home Gateway Initiative) Smart Home technical achievements into oneM2M, in order to forster the convergence of IoT information models. Before, she had worked 16 years in other telecommunications aspects, including fruitful experience on cellular base stations in Nortel R&D, on radiocommunication regulatory aspects in ANFR, and in France Telecom R&D first promoting new technologies such as Ultra Wide Band IEEE 802.15.4a, or cognitive radio, then as an R&D Project Manager for Home Automation, being also active in ETSI M2M TC as the WG1 (Service Requirements) Chair and the Rapporteur of the related Specification.

Svetoslav Mihaylov, European Commission
Svetoslav Mihaylov is a Policy Officer in Unit H2 – Smart Mobility and Living at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. His areas of responsibility are interoperability and standards for Smart Cities, smart appliances - smart home, smart energy, data centres sustainability, etc.
The unit is charged with developing policy and related R&D activities around ICT contributions to smart cities, and triple-bottom-line sustainability in response to societal challenges in resource efficiency, climate, transport and energy.
In the period 1999-2013, Svetoslav Mihaylov held different positions at the largest telecom operator in Belgium Proximus and was responsible for introducing new technologies, creating network solutions, defining the strategy and roadmap, etc.
Prior to this he worked on a contract for the European Commission's DG XIII Telecommunications and several other organisations/companies.

Philippe Moretto, Sat4m2m
Philippe is currently ETSI expert for the SCC ESPRESSO Smart Cities project and communities and for in support of 7 RIAs Member of AIOTI WG03 with +20 years in ICT and sat technologies, he has contributed to the work on satellite navigation based performances in ETSI TC SES SCN and in CEN TC 5 Space WG1 (M496). He is also an SBS expert and Secretary of the ENCADRE association. He has been involved in 7 research projects with EC, GSA (Galileo Agency) and ESA addressing ITS, LBS, PNT and data issues. He is graduated from ISU, Strasburg and GWU - George Washington University.

Barbara has over 18 years of experience in the mobile industry. She has been part of the GSMA Connected Living Programme since 2014, working on several aspects of the IoT such as the development of the Mobile IoT Technologies (LTE-M, NB-IoT and EC-GSM-IoT), and the GSMA IoT Security Guidelines for helping the mobile industry to create trusted solutions for the IoT. Before joining the GSMA Barbara worked in R&D in several areas of telecommunications, including Intelligent Networks, IMS, Service Enabling and M2M/IoT. Matteo Petracca, CNIT
Matteo Petracca received the M.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering in2003 and the Ph.D. degree in Information and System Engineering in 2007, both from the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy. In 2009 he joined the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa, Italy and in the 2010 the CNIT (National Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications) as researcher. Dr. Petracca has been actively involved in many Italian and European research projects. Luis Jorge Romero, ETSI Director-General
Luis Jorge Romero, Director General of ETSI, has more than 20-years experience in the telecommunications sector. At ETSI he has initiated a global standardization partnership for Machine to Machine communications, oneM2M, has overseen the rapid development of ETSI's Industry Specification Group on Network Functions Virtualization, and has driven the implementation of the ETSI Long Term Strategy, an ambitious plan to prepare the institute for the future. Previously he has held diverse Director positions in Spain, Morocco and Mexico, predominantly with Telefonica. As Global Director for International Roaming and Standards, and Director of Innovation and Standards, he oversaw Telefonica's participation in global standardization activities, and participated directly in the work of the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance and in the GSM Association (GSMA). Before joining ETSI in July 2011, he held the position of Director General of Innosoft and was also a partner and board member of Madrid-based Innology Ventures.

Enrico Scarrone, TIM, ETSI Smart M2M Chairman
Enrico Scarrone joined the R&D division of Telecom Italia in 1992. Participation and promotion of early studies on integration of IP and mobile cellular networks in 3G.IP and in 3GPP (where he served as delegate from 1999 and as SA1 Chairman from 1996 to end 2011), has allowed him to stimulate the inclusion of all-IP solution and the IMS in 3GPP. He was involved in in several projects in technology planning and selection, testing, budget forecasts, RFI, RFQ in the mobile and FMC areas, developing a strong link between real networks and standardization/research. This includes technical consulting on mobile, fixed and IMS technologies in more than 15 countries around the world. He was deeply involved in the foundation of ETSI TC M2M (serving as Chairman from 2011 and 1012) and oneM2M, in charge of developing a global multiservice system for IoT. He is also coordinator for IoT standardization in the Telecom Italia Technology department.

Dimitra Simeonidou, University of Bristol
Dimitra Simeonidou is a Full Professor at the University of Bristol, the Director of the Smart Internet Lab, Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Bristol Is Open and Head of the High Performance Networks group (HPN). Her research is focusing in the fields of High Performance Networks, Software Defined Networking and Smart City infrastructures. She is the author and co-author of over 400 publications, 12 patents and several major contributions to standards.
She has been co-founder of two spin-out companies: i) Ilotron (in year 2000) which was subsequently acquired by the US company Altamar (in 2001); ii) the University of Bristol spin-out Zeetta Networks ( delivering SDN software platforms for enterprise networks and has received venture capital funding in December 2015.
Since 2015 she has been the Technical Lead of the smart city project Bristol Is Open ( delivering the world’s first programmable city-wide test-bed for research and innovation.

Antonio Skarmeta, Municipality of Murcia
Dr Antonio Skarmeta received the M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Granada and B.S. (Hons.) and the Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Murcia Spain. Since 2009 he is Full Professor at the same department and University. Antonio F. Skarmeta has worked on different research projects in the national and international area in the networking, security and IoT area, like Euro6IX, ENABLE, DAIDALOS, SWIFT, SEMIRAMIS, SMARTIE, SOCIOTAL and IoT6. His main interested is in the integration of security services, identity, IoT and Smart Cities. He has been head of the research group ANTS since its creation on 1995. Actually he is also advisor to the vice-rector of Research of the University of Murcia for International projects and head of the International Research Project Office. Since 2014 he is Spanish National Representative for the MSCA within H2020. He has published over 200 international papers and being member of several program committees. He has also participated in several standardization for a like IETF, ISO and ETSI.

Ronald Steinke, Fraunhofer FOKUS
Ronald Steinke was studying computer engineering at the Technische Universität Berlin with focusing on network technologies. From 2009 to 2012 he was working as a student researcher at TKN institute at the TU Berlin. There he was working with Omnet++ in the area of Network Coding and Future Internet. In 2012 he joined the NGNI department at the Fraunhofer FOKUS institute as a student researcher. At NGNI he was helping developing the OpenMTC platform and was working in the area of M2M and IoT. In 2014 he wrote his Diploma Thesis at the NGNI department with the title "Design and Implementation of an ETSI M2M compliant control framework for Smart Grids" and graduated as graduate engineer. In July 2014 he joined the chair Next Generation Networks at the TU Berlin and working at Fraunhofer FOKUS since 2015.

Joerg Swetina, NEC
Joerg Swetina studied Chemistry and Mathematics at the University of Vienna, Austria and later conducted research in Theoretical Chemistry.
Moving from academia to industry he led a development team dealing with GSM call processing and software testing at Siemens Austria. Since the early days of 3GPP he had been acting as chair/vicechair and representing Siemens in standardization bodies like ETSI SMG, 3GPP, OMA and others.
In 2008 he moved to NEC Europe in Heidelberg, Germany, continuing his work in standards. Additionally to his work in 3GPP where he works on requirements – currently focusing on 5G – his other main field of interest is Machine-to-Machine (IoT/M2M) communication. He was active in creating the 'oneM2M Global Initiative' organization and is currently acting as vice chair of the requirements group of oneM2M. 

Paolo Ursino, ConneXM
Paolo Ursino is the CEO and co-founder of ConneXM. Paolo has more than 20 years of experience in small R&D organisations as well as large corporates in a variety of roles, from software engineer to senior manager and director. He is a specialist in wireless, mobile, Internet and IoT technologies. He started his career working in automation and robotics at Automata before moving to 3Com and then Samsung Electronics, where he led the design team that developed the first Samsung 3G baseband processor. He then moved to Broadcom to head up their mobile and wireless group business unit in the UK, with full site responsibility and project teams in India and the US reporting to him. In 2013 Paolo founded ConneXM and led the development of oneM2M compliant IoT platform and gateways. Paolo has a MSc in Electronics Engineering from Bologna University and an MBA from CASS Business School.

Laurent Velez, ETSI
Laurent Laurent is a technical expert in the ETSI Centre for Testing and Interoperability (CTI.) he has worked in the ETSI Secretariat since 2008, where he is responsible for developing and validating test specifications. His area of work is wide, with a special focus on oneM2M and Internet Of Things technologies. He is also involved in the Electronic Signatures domain, being responsible of ESI Plugtests and Trusted Lists projects with European Commission. Originally from France, he received an Engineering Diploma/MSc in electronics and computer engineering from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Electronique, Informatique et Radiocommunications de Bordeaux. Before joining ETSI he was working in Ericsson and Siemens in Mobile Network Area, and then in Nortel, in the field of data routers and switches products.

Dragan Vujcic, Oberthur Technologies
Dragan is leader of IoT/M2M standardization at Oberthur Technologies, working in research and designs of M2M Security systems. He received a B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering and an M.Sc. Degree in Computer Science. From his longstanding and active participation in various 3GPP standards from Radio Access to the System and Service aspects including Terminals and Security, he developed a deep standardization strength and understanding of the technical challenges and methods to make standards successful for time to market. Dragan is also actively involved into oneM2M and has been instrumental in creating the Security working group. He is Vice Chair of the oneM2M Security working group.

Wei Wei, IBM
Wei Wei is Executive Staff of Technical Relation Europe at IBM. His current areas are IoT and Industry 4.0 Standardization.
He is currently working as co-editors of ISO/IEC JTC1 WG10 Internet of Things Reference Architecture and ISO/IEC JTC1 WG10 Internet of Things Definition and Vocabulary. He is also the vice-Chair of German IoT Standard Committee at DIN, and the member of German Industry 4.0 Standardization Working Group (DKE/DIN), where RAMI 4.0 (Reference Architecture Model for Industry 4.0), recommendations and roadmaps for Industry 4.0 standardization are under current focus.
Wei Wei has a back ground of more than 20 years of experiences in internet services and telecommunication (fixed/mobile, cable, broadband) industries. He has been worked as technical leader in different global IT companies such as Nokia, Vodafone and IBM. Responsible for the solutions which are correctly implemented, tested, delivered and accepted by customer. Formerly held technical solution lead architect positions at IBM and Vodafone.

Frank Zeppenfeldt, European Space Agency, Satellite Telecommunications
Frank Zeppenfeldt studied at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands and is now a working in the Satellite Telecommunications Group of ESA (European Space Agency). He is part of a group preparing future projects leading to new satellite applications and infrastructure. Current activities include the use of satellite for machine-to-machine (M2M) type of communications and small satellites.
Earlier, Frank worked in the area of IT networking, military satellite communications and meteorological satellite ground systems.

Mengxuan Zhao, Easy Global Market
Dr Mengxuan Zhao (female) has a PhD in computer science from University of Grenoble. Her thesis topic is "Discrete control for the Internet of things and smart environment via a shared infrastructure" where she brought the classical discrete control theory to the new application domain which the IoT using semantic techniques.
With a strong background and research interest in the IoT domain and the semantic technologies, she joint Easy Global Market in June 2015 after 3 years of work of thesis preparation in Orange Labs in Grenoble.
