ETSI has partnered with Informa for the MEC World Congress, taking place on 20-22 September 2016 in Munich Germany ( ETSI was pleased to announce that the first ETSI MEC PoC ZONE was an integral part of the event. The ETSI MEC PoC ZONE was an area within the World Congress Exhibition, dedicated to the demonstration of Mobile Edge Computing Proofs of Concept (MEC PoCs) accepted by the ETSI MEC ISG. 



Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC) offers application developers and content providers cloud-computing capabilities and an IT service environment at the edge of the mobile network. This environment is characterized by ultra-low latency and high bandwidth as well as real-time access to radio network information that can be leveraged by applications.
MEC provides a new ecosystem and value chain. Operators can open their Radio Access Network (RAN) edge to authorized third-parties, allowing them to flexibly and rapidly deploy innovative applications and services towards mobile subscribers, enterprises and vertical segments.


The ETSI MEC ISG is developing an MEC PoC Framework to coordinate and promote multi-vendor Proofs of Concept (PoC) illustrating key aspects of MEC ISG work. MEC PoC is intended to demonstrate MEC as a viable technology. Results are fed back to the MEC Industry Specification Group. MEC PoC also help to develop a diverse, open, MEC ecosystem.


The ETSI MEC PoC ZONE enabled the demonstration of multi-vendor Proof of Concept (PoC) projects that were developed according to the MEC ISG PoC Framework. It was a unique opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and insight about MEC technology - and what the current reality is - in order to strengthen the strategic planning and decision-making, and help identify which MEC solutions may be viable in the network.

MEC PoC are intended to demonstrate MEC as a viable technology. Results are fed back to the MEC Industry Specification Group.
