e-Signature Validation Remote Plugtests 2016

ETSI and the European Commission are organizing a second eSignature Validation Plugtest, follow-up of the one organized at the end of 2014.

Originally planned to be held from 6 to 29 April 2016, the event has been extended to 30 May 2016 due to the high level of participation. This event will facilitate the implementation of Commission Decision 2011/130/EC, which requires Member States to be able to process documents signed with XAdES, PAdES, CAdES and ASiC. In this respect, the event aims at checking the interoperability of Digital Signatures in order to detect possible issues which may lead to different validation results.

The interoperability testing will allow Member States and possible third parties to test their e-signature validation tools to cross-validate ETSI e-signatures in whatever format these may be, relying on Member States’ Trusted Lists and according to new European Standard EN 319 102-1 (Procedures for Creation and Validation of AdES Digital Signatures).

ETSI has published the first of a series of European Standards to support the European Regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market, or eIDAS (Regulation (EU) 910/2014). The proposed date for this Plugtest event, April 2016, has been chosen to allow sufficient time to Member States implementations to fulfil the requirements of new EN on ETSI AdES Signatures, as well as the EN 319 102-1. This Plugtest will be a good way for Member States to test their compliance/prepare their compliance to the IA requirements, still several months before the date of application of the implementing act under eIDAS.

The signature formats addressed in this remote Plugtests event are:

  • XAdES: XML Advanced Electronic Signature
  • PAdES: PDF Advanced Electronic Signature
  • CAdES: CMS Advanced Electronic Signature
  • ASiC: Associated Signature Container

As this is a REMOTE event, there is no need for the participants to travel to the ETSI premises and all signature exchanges and verifications are performed via the dedicated portal http://xades-portal.etsi.org.
