Workshop on Future Radio Technologies: Air Interfaces

The ETSI Workshop on Future Radio Technologies focusing on Air Interfaces took place on 27-28 January 2016 in ETSI, Sophia-Antipolis, France.

Spectrum scarcity has become a major issue for commercial, public safety and other wireless communication systems. Consequently, future air interfaces (waveforms) and modulation types are about to meet a dramatic shift in design requirements.

Recent innovations indeed feed hope for new designs which allow for a substantial increase in spectrum efficiency, a dramatic reduction of out-of-band radiation reducing the “pollution” of neighbouring systems augmenting the user experience by improving the system reliability and maximizing the bit rate as a function of the available spectrum.

A new approach to the air interfaces, modulations and the TX/RX chains in general is likely to be a building block of future wireless systems and may impact the overall network architecture as well as the radio device architecture.

While it is obvious that a  modulation type for a given service has always to take into account the existing services in the same frequency band and neighbour bands so as not to cause  (or at least minimise) interference, this requirement is not always addressed to an appropriate level in existing designs.

Ideally, a “tunable” air interface would be configured to all needs arising in a specific use case – including number of available antennas, modulation/demodulation complexity, level of robustness to transceiver chain non-linearities, latency, band selectivity, required transmission directivity, available degrees of freedom (time, frequency, space, etc.), different “environmental” conditions (such as the user’s location, speed, weather conditions or even the battery state of a mobile terminal), available capacity or even the user’s subscription, the mobile terminal types (when applicable), etc.   In other words, we are in need for a solution which allows an “ad-hoc” optimisation for maximizing the user experience as well as the spectrum efficiency.

Zewei Chen received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Applied Physics and Acoustics from South China University of Technology (SCUT), Guangzhou, China, in 2009 and 2012, respectively. He is now working at ZTE Corporation, Shenzhen, China. His research interests are in wireless communication, particularly on channel coding, link adaptation and related standardization.

Scott Cadzow has over the past 20 years or so become a recognised standards development expert, primarily for security standards, in a number of International Standards Development Organisations including ETSI, ITU-T and ISO. In ETSI Scott is or has been the rapporteur for the TETRA security specifications, the suite of guidance documents for effective security standards development (covering Common Criteria, Risk analysis, and security requirements engineering) in technical bodies MTS and TISPAN, and has acted as an expert to a number of Specialist Task Forces in TETRA, TISPAN, HF, MTS, eHEALTH and AT-D. He has served as chairman of the ETSI ITS Security group and as vice-chairman of each of ETSI Project TETRA WG6 (Security), TETRA Security and Fraud Prevention Group (SFPG), and of the ETSI Lawful Interception group. Scott has contributed to reports from ENISA on network resilience, supply chain integrity and on measures to counter internet bullying. More recently Scott has been involved in a number of projects under the FP7/CIP/H2020 umbrella looking at security and privacy aspects of smart cities. This has led Scott to take a wider view at the whole interoperability conundrum and to address the need to look more deeply at the problems we will face with the IoT and dynamic self configuring equipment

Nicolas CHUBERRE has more than 20 years experience in digital radio communications. Previously with Nokia & Alcatel Mobile phones to design cellular handsets & systems, he joined Thales Alenia Space to manage the development of satellite payload equipment. He is currently designing Satellite Communication Systems (GSO and NGSO). Nicolas has published several papers on innovative Satellite System concepts. Armin Dammann received his Dipl.-Ing. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Ulm, Germany, in 1997 and 2005, respectively. In 1997, he joined the Institute of Communications and Navigation of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. Since 2005, he is the head of the Mobile Radio Transmission Group at the Institute of Communications and Navigation of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). His present research interest and activities include signal design and signal processing for mobile positioning systems and swarm navigation. Armin Dammann has been active in several EU-projects, e.g., WINNER, WHERE and WHERE2, HIGHTS, etc. He has been co-organizer of the international workshop series on Multi-Carrier Systems and Solutions (MC-SS). Armin Dammann has co-authored more than 150 publications at international conferences, in scientific journals and book chapters. He is co-author of the book “Positioning in Wireless Communicatios Systems”.

Merounanne DebbahMérouane Debbah, Vice-President, Huawei France R&D Center
Mérouane Debbah entered the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (France) in 1996 where he received his M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees respectively. He worked for Motorola Labs (Saclay, France) from 1999-2002 and the Vienna Research Center for Telecommunications (Vienna, Austria) until 2003. From 2003 to 2007, he joined the Mobile Communications department of the Institut Eurecom (Sophia Antipolis, France) as an Assistant Professor. Since 2007, he is a Full Professor at CentraleSupelec (Gif-sur-Yvette, France). From 2007 to 2014, he was the director of the Alcatel-Lucent Chair on Flexible Radio. Since 2014, he is Vice-President of the Huawei France R&D center and director of the Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Lab. His research interests lie in fundamental mathematics, algorithms, statistics, information & communication sciences research. HMérouane Debbah is a recipient of the ERC grant MORE (Advanced Mathematical Tools for Complex Network Engineering). He is a IEEE Fellow, a WWRF Fellow and a member of the academic senate of Paris-Saclay.

Francois DelaveauFrançois Delaveau, Thales Communications and Security
Born in 1964, François Delaveau received the M.Sc degrees from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées (ENSTA), Paris, France, in 1987, and from Mathematics University (maîtrise Paris VII - 1988; agrégation - 1990). His various activities (development, marketing support, project manager and head of laboratory...) covered several domains: radio communications, RADARS, SONARS, infra-red and Acoustic sensors and systems. Since 1997 within Thales Communications, he led researches and developments of new instruments for spectrum monitoring; of smart antennas for anti-jammed modems, direction finders and COMINT sensors (terrestrial, maritime, airborne and satellite); and of passive radars (Thales award 2007). More recently, he focused on advanced security schemes for Radio Access Technologies of wireless networks (coordinator of the EC-FP7 PHYLAWS project).

Jean DION Jean Dion, b<>com
Jean Dion was born in Rheims, France, in 1986. He received the Engineer degree in Telecommunication from TELECOM Bretagne (previously ENST Bretagne), Brest, France, in 2010. From 2010 to 2013, he was a research engineer in Orange Labs, Cesson-Sévigné, France, working toward a doctoral degree directed by TELECOM Bretagne, on the topic of hardware mutualization for advanced FEC decoders on FPGA target. Since 2013, he is a research engineer in b<>com, Cesson-Sévigné, France. His research interests are focused on advanced FEC de-coding and modulation scheme on multi-RAT context.

Andreas GeissAndreas Geiss, Head of Unit for Spectrum Policy, DG CONNECT, European Commission
Andreas Geiss is Head of Unit for Spectrum Policy in DG CONNECT of the European Commission. He has been working for the European Commission since 2002 in various positions. His responsibilities included mobile communications, the Radio Spectrum Policy Programme and negotiations with the Member States in different settings. Before joining the European Commission he worked for the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO), where he was project leader for projects dealing with terrestrial and satellite communications. He has been involved in the European preparations for World Radiocommunications Conferences since 1995. Andreas has a master's degree in electrical engineering and started his professional career in 1991 at the German Regulatory Authority in the area of telecommunications.recommendations.

grantmMarc Grant, AT&T and ETSI Board Vice-Chairman
Marc Grant is Lead Principal Technical Architect for AT&T Radio Standards.  Mr. Grant has been with AT&T and its predecessors, Cingular Wireless and SBC Technology Resources since 1998. He is responsible for working with standardization organizations worldwide on the creation of the GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSPA,LTE, LTE-Advanced as well as the entire suite of ITU IMT specifications.
Marc is Vice-Chair of the ETSI Board, where he has served since 2008. He has been vice-chair of the 3GPP Radio Access Network Technical Specification Group (TSG-RAN) from 2009-2013. He chairs the Radio Aspects Sub Working Group of ITU-R Working Party 5D, which is responsible for leading the creation of the ITU requirements for IMT-2020. He served as vice-chair of the 3GPP TSG-GERAN (GSM/EDGE) group from 2000-2006. Mr. Grant currently represents AT&T in 3GPP RAN where he champions new spectrum initiatives for the company. He has received numerous awards for his participation in industry standards organizations.
Previously, Marc was with Sprint PCS where his team started up the first commercial CDMA2000 network in the USA. He led the creation of the first open interface base station specification for the CDMA2000 technology.  He also spent time at Nortel, where he worked on the CDMA2000 technology roll out.
Mr. Grant was at E-Systems Garland Division (now Raytheon Corporation) for 10 years at where he was Senior Systems Test Engineer specializing in Government Systems.
Marc has his B.S. in Engineering Management from Amberton University in Garland, Texas, and an A.S. from DeVry Technical Institute in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He currently lives in Austin, Texas in the United States.

CHehang He, University of Surrey, UK
Chang He is a PhD candidate in Electronic Engineering in the institute for Communication Systems (ICS) at University of Surrey, UK. He completed his Master's degree in Wireless Communications from University of Southampton. His current research interests are mainly DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) based multi-carrier transceiver design and CMT (Cosine Modulated multitone) based filter bank systems.

Oliver HollandOliver Holland, King's College London
Dr. Oliver Holland led the ICT-ACROPOLIS Network of Excellence ( for the second-half of its duration, and is currently leading a major trial of TV White Spaces technology as part of the Ofcom TV White Spaces Pilot. This is among numerous other leadership roles and he has served within research. Oliver currently has a number of leadership positions in IEEE standards, conferences and journals, and is often an invited speaker on topics around spectrum access and sharing, among others. Oliver’s varied research interests span across all layers of the OSI 7-layer reference model; one particularly strong interest of his is radio-spectrum sharing methods. Oliver has co-authored over 150 publications; the >140 of his publications that Google Scholar currently locates have been cited more than 950 times. He has co-edited two books, published by Springer and Wiley, and is currently co-authoring another book to be published by Cambridge University Press.

Mythri HunukumbureMythri Hunukumbure, Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd
Mythri Hunukumbure obtained his BSc (Honours) degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and MSc and PhD degrees in Wireless Communications from University of Bristol, UK. He recently joined Samsung R&D Institute UK (SRUK) as a Principal Researcher and plays a leading role in the EU funded mmMAGIC 5G project. He contributions are as WP5 (Multi-antenna/ node technologies) Leader and as Task Leader for T1.2 (spectrum assessment). Prior to this, he worked at Fujitsu Labs of Europe for 8 years and contributed to and later led research on WiMAX and LTE standardisation, Green Wireless, Femto cell innovations and D2D adaptations for 5G. He has secured around 25 patents and has also published extensively in leading IEEE conferences and journals, receiving best paper award at the World Telecommunications Congress (WTC) in 2012. He has participated in many topical workshops in IEEE conferences as a panellist/ invited speaker.

IvanovVVladimir Ivanov, LG Electronics
Vladimir Ivanov earned Diploma degree in mathematics from Novosibirsk State University, Russia, in 1979 and Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Military Communication Academy, St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1989. From 1990 to 1997 he was a senior scientist in the DSP Research Center, the State University of Telecommunication in St. Petersburg. He took a leading engineering position in hi-tech companies in Israel and the United States in 1997 - 2002. In 2003, he joined Intel Corporation. He contributed to IEEE P1900.4 WG (protocols for cognitive radio) where he acted as a chair of the System Architecture subgroup. In December 2014, he joined LG Electronics as Principal Research Engineer. His research interests include automated electronic design (ESL, HLS), mathematical foundations of electronic design, concurrent computations, Reconfigurable Radio.

KazazTarik Kazaz, iMinds - Gent University
Tarik Kazaz received his M.Sc. degree with honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sarajevo, in 2012. In 2013 he joined BH Mobile, where he was working as Radio Access Network Engineer, while at the same time he was part time teaching assistant at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Sarajevo. Since January 2015, he is PhD student at the department of Information Technology (INTEC) at Ghent University. Within this department, he is working at the Internet Based Communication Networks and Services (IBCN) research group. As a member of this research group, he is also affiliated with iMinds research institute. He is actively working on the development of an adaptive real-time software defined radio platform based on system on chip components. His main research includes wireless communications, software defined radio and cognitive radio, hardware-software co-design for wireless communications and future networks.

Dimitri Kténas, CEA Leti
Dimitri Kténas received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Electronique et de Radioélectricité (ENSERG), Grenoble (France), in 2001. From that time, he has been with CEA-Leti in Grenoble, France. His main current research interests are PHY, MAC and cross-layer optimization for 5G cellular networks. He has been involved in several European projects (4MORE, CODIV, ARTIST4G, EXALTED, iJOIN, 5GNOW, FANTASTIC-5G, mmMAGIC) and was the coordinator of the French OPUS project that dealt with LTE optimization. Since 2010, he is leading the Wireless Communication System Studies laboratory within CEA-Leti, which is in charge of baseband processing and MAC layer studies for wireless systems. In 2014, Dimitri Kténas was appointed CEA senior expert on Telecommunications. He has published 45+ scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings and 3 book chapters, and is the main inventor or co-inventor of 10+ patents.

Liguang LiLiguang Li, ZTE Corporation
Liguang Li received the B.S. degree in School of Information Engineering from Southwest University of Science and Technology, Mianyang, Sichuan, China, in 2008 and the M.S. degree from the School of Information Science and Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China, in 2011. He is currently working at ZTE Corporation. His research interests include implementation of error correcting codes and wireless communication systems.

Qiang LiQian (Clara) Li, Intel Corporation
Dr. Qian (Clara) Li ([email protected]) is a senior research scientist with the Wireless Next Generation and Standards division of the Communication and Devices Group in Intel Corporation. Her work has been focused on information theory, communication theory, LTE evolution, and most recently on mmWave communications and 5G technologies. Dr. Li has published more than 40 papers in international journals and conferences and 2 book chapters. Dr. Li served as symposium co-chair, technical committee member and reviewer for several IEEE conferences and journals, including ICC, Globecom, VTC, WCNC, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, IEEE Communications Letters, IEEE Access, and EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking.

Jian LuoJian Luo, Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH
Dr.-Ing. Jian Luo (Male) received the B.A. Sc. degree in communication engineering from South China University of Technology in 2004 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, in 2006 and 2012, respectively. Since 2007, he has been working in the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin as a researcher and since 2010, also as project leader. There, he has worked on the topics of 60 GHz communication system design, Smart-RF signal processing, design concepts for wideband, flexible and reconfigurable radio transceivers, and spectrum sharing. He has participated in a number of German national and EU projects (EASY-A, Smart-RF, TEROPP, SAPHYRE). Since Oct. 2012, he joint Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH, European Research Center (ERC), as a senior researcher and work on 5G research (incl. METIS, mmMAGIC), focusing on millimeter wave communication technologies, air-interface design, and flexible spectrum usage.

Honglei Miao, Intel Deuschland
Honglei Miao (male) received B.Sc. from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China in 1996, M.Sc. degree from China Academy of Telecom Technology in 1999, and Ph.D. degree from University of Oulu, Finland in 2007. He was with China Academy of Telecommunication Technology from 1999 to 2002, where he worked on TD-SCDMA standardization and system development. From 2007 to 2012, he was with Nokia Corporation, Helsinki, and worked as modem algorithm specialist and senior researcher for HSPA/LTE standardization and modem development. Since 2013, he is with Intel Corporation, Munich, and currently working as a senior standard researcher for 5G technologies. He has been contributing to European FP7 (MiWaveS) and H2020 research projects (mmMagic, Fantastic5G).

 Ingrid MoermannIngrid Moerman, iMinds
Ingrid Moerman received her degree in Electrical Engineering (1987) and the Ph.D degree (1992) from the Ghent University, where she became a part-time professor in 2000. She is a staff member of the research group on Internet-Based Communication Networks and Services, IBCN (, where she is leading the research on mobile and wireless communication networks. Since 2006 she joined iMinds, where she is coordinating several interdisciplinary research projects. Her main research interests include: Internet of Things, Cooperative and Cognitive Networks, Wireless Access, and Experimentally-supported research. Ingrid Moerman has a longstanding experience in running national and EU research funded projects. At the European level, Ingrid Moerman is inInternet Research and Experimentation) and Future Networks. Ingrid Moerman is author or co-author of more than 600 publications in international journals or conference proceedings.

PapathanassiouApostolos (Tolis) Papathanassiou, Intel Corporation
Apostolos (Tolis) Papathanassiou is responsible for LTE PHY standardization and is engaged in 5G technology development activities in the Next Generation and Standards (NGS) division of Intel Communication and Devices Group (iCDG). He has more than 50 scientific contributions to international journals, conferences, and books, more than 25 awarded patents/patent applications, and more than 100 contributions to wireless standardization bodies such as 3GPP, ITU-R and IEEE 802.11/802.16. Previously at Intel, he led multiple standardization efforts in ITU-R and IEEE. Before joining Intel, Tolis worked on multiple-antenna PHY techniques and algorithms for 3G, WiFi and satellite systems.

Miquel Payaró received the Electrical Engineering and the Ph.D. degrees from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), in 2002 and 2007, respectively.  From February 2007 to December 2008 he was a Research Associate at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Since January 2009 he is a Researcher with CTTC. From January 2011 to March 2013, he led the Engineering Unit and, In April 2013, he became a Senior Researcher and was appointed the Head of the Communications Technologies Division.
Miquel has led and participated in several research contracts with the industry (with companies like Aviat Networks or GMV) as well as in research projects from the Seventh Framework Program of the EC, such as BuNGee or Newcom#, where he led the experimental activities related to radio interfaces for 5G systems. From July, 2015, Miquel is serving as Technical Manager in the 5G-PPP project Flex5Gware.

Ana Perez-Neira CTTCAna Pérez-Neira, CTTC
Ana Pérez-Neira is full professor at UPC (Technical University of Catalonia) in the Signal Theory and Communication department. She has been in the board of directors of ETSETB (Telecom Barcelona) and Vicerector for Research. Currently, she is Scientific Coordinator at CTTC (Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya). Since 2008 she is member of EURASIP BoD (European Signal Processing Association) and since 2010 of IEEE SPTM (Signal Processing Theory and Methods). She has been the leader of 20 projects and has participated in over 50. She is author of 50 journal papers and more than 200 conference papers (20 invited).

Francois RancyFrancois Rancy, Director, ITU Radiocommunication Bureau
Mr. Rancy was elected by the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in 2010 (PP-10) to the post of Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) of the International Telecommunication Union, and was confirmed in a second term during the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in 2014 (PP-14).  As Director, Mr. Rancy is responsible for the management of the Radiocommunication Bureau which organises and co-ordinates the work of the Radiocommunication Sector whose aim is to ensure the rational, equitable, efficient and economical use of the radio-frequency spectrum and the geostationary satellite orbit. Previous to taking up his duties at the ITU in January, 2011, he was Director General of the French Agence nationale des fréquences. Since 1995, Mr. Rancy has served as the head or deputy head for national delegations at many ITU conferences and meetings. Mr. Rancy graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in 1977 and from Ecole nationale supérieure des télécommunications in 1979.

Benjamin ROSBenjamin Ros, CNES
Benjamin Ros is graduated (M.Sc) from the University of Rennes1 in electronics and telecommunications engineering in 2005. After working in an SME on signal processing and air interfaces subjects, he has been working since 2007 at the French Space Agency in the telecommunications department as an air interface engineer.  Its areas of work  are waveforms optimization satellite mobile channel, channel sounding, and satellite system optimization. Since 2011, he has lead studies and software developments on SC-OFDM transceivers through satellite payload and mobile channel.

Franck SchaichFrank Schaich, Alcatel-Lucent AG
Frank Schaich received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Stuttgart, and worked as a research assistant at the University’s Institute of Communications developing robust coding schemes for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) while working toward his doctorate. 2007 he joined Alcatel-Lucent’s wireless access physical layer group. Dr. Schaich served as work package leader for the European Union’s FP7 projects PHYDYAS, which investigated alternative waveform designs (filter bank based multi-carrier, FBMC) and corresponding transceiver functionalities, and ACCORDANCE dealing with fixed-mobile convergence issues and architecture options for CRAN. Recently he has been active on developing solutions for  the next generation of wireless cellular communication systems in the framework of 5GNOW and METIS. Dr. Schaich acts as coordinator for a new project (FANTASTIC-5G) in the framework of horizon 2020 targeting the definition of the air interface for 5G. He is author of numerous publications and filings.

Malte Schellmann HuaweiMalte Schellmann, Huawei European Research Center
Dr. Malte Schellmann received the Dipl.-Ing. (M.S.) degree in electrical engineering and information technology from the Technische Universität München, Germany, in 2003 and the Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.) degree from Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, in 2009. In 2004 he joined Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, Berlin, where he worked on practical methods for the spectrally efficient transmission in multi-user MIMO-OFDM systems. He contributed to the German research projects 3GeT and ScaleNet and the European projects WINNER, WINNER II and WINNER+. In 2009 he joined the Huawei European Research Center (ERC) in Munich, where he works as a senior research engineer on radio access technology research for 5G, focusing in particular on new waveform design. In the European FP7 project METIS, he was leading the research on radio link concepts. Now he is contributing to the European H2020 research projects METIS-II and Fantastic-5G. He authored more than 50 papers and 3 book chapters

Isabelle SIAUD, Orange
Dr. Isabelle SIAUD received the Electronic Master Diploma from the UPMC Paris VI in 1992 and a multi-disciplinary (mm-wave propagation and Short Range PHY/MAC system design) PhD from the INSA-Rennes in 2011, prepared as R&D engineer in Orange Labs. From 1993 to 1998, she took part in mm-wave propagation activities and joined in 1999, the  Orange labs in Rennes to shift her work into innovative UWB, green transmission techniques and  Multiple Interface Management (MIM)  for 4G and 5G networks. She has been involved in several collaborative projects and international consortiums dealing with mm-wave and MIM (IST/FP6 MAGNET beyond, IST-FP7 IPHOBAC, ICT-FP7 OMEGA, GreenTouch, ICT-FP7 METIS projects). Actually, she participates to the  Europe-Japan ICT-FP7 MiWEBA project focusing her work on Energy Efficient multi-RAT system design and  leads a work package dealing with mm-wave overlay networks for backhaul. She has joined the  b<>com Technical Research Institute in 2014 and shares her business time between Orange and b<>com. She recently joins the 5G 3P mm-MAGIC project as orange partner and ETSI Radio Reconfigurable Technical Committee as b<>com ETSI RRS delegate. In b<>com she focuses her activities on Energy Efficient multi-RAT architectures in mobile radio reconfigurable systems and standardization. She is co-author of more than 40 international conferences, 3 books, several international journal papers and patents

Milos TesanovicMilos Tesanovic, Samsung Electronics R&D Institute UK
Dr Milos Tesanovic is a Principal 5G Researcher at Samsung Electronics R&D Institute UK. He is currently co-ordinating collaborative European R&D activities and conducting research into next-generation mobile systems. Milos obtained his PhD in 2008 from the University of Bristol, UK, for his work on robust wireless transmission of video over MIMO systems. He has filed more than 35 patents / patent applications, published numerous refereed journal and international conference papers, and made active contribution to PHY and MAC standardisation of LTE and LTE-A. Milos was the keynote speaker at 7th EAI International Conference on Mobile Networks and Management (MONAMI 2015), the IEEE PIMRC 2015 “From 4G to 5G” panel co-organiser and chair, a co-organiser of the IEEE ISWCS 2014 Workshop on low-EMF networking, an invited speaker at the IoT Forum 2012, as well as a panellist at IEEE Globecom 2012 M2M Workshop.

WuHaoHao Wu, ZTE Corporation
Hao Wu received the B.S. degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing, China, in 2010, and the Ph.D. degree from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 2015, both in electrical engineering. He is now with the Algorithm Department, ZTE Corporation. During 2011–2012, he was a Visiting Student at Columbia University, New York, NY, USA. His research interests include MIMO wireless communications, large-scale antenna array systems, and iterative signal processing. He has published journal articles in IEEE Trans. on Sig. Proc., IEEE Trans. on Comm., IEEE Trans. on Veh. Tech. and so on.

Xiao YanXiao Yan, ZTE Corporation
Xiao Yan received his M.S. degree in communication engineering from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) in 2015. He has authored and co-authored more than 30 EI indexed papers and 10 patents. He is currently with ZTE Corporation and working on 5G research. His interests include ultra dense network, wireless backhaul and system signaling design.

Chan ZhouChan Zhou, Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH
Dr. Chan Zhou received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in computer science from the technical university Berlin, Germany, in 2003, and a Ph.D degree in electrical engineering in 2009. From 2003 to 2009 he worked at Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute for telecommunications, where he engaged in numerous projects with the focus on the realization of high speed data transmission in cellular networks. In 2010 he joined Huawei European Research Center in Munich. He was involved in and actively contributed to the standardization of 3GPP LTE, as well as many national and EU projects. His research interests include radio resource management and protocol design in wireless networks, in particular the optimization of the future networks for Vehicle Communication and Machine-Type-Communication.
