ETSI has been supportive of India’s efforts in the standardization arena and with its active partnership with TEC, CDOT and TSDSI, it is successfully contributing towards creating awareness on the need for IoT/M2M standards.
IMPORTANT: The rapid outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the travel restrictions already imposed by many companies impact the programme and attendance of the event planned on 23 March. It has been decided to postpone the event.
ETSI, in cooperation with TEC, CDOT, TSDSI and the oneM2M partnership project, is pleased to invite you to participate in the oneM2M workshop on "M2M/IoT standards: OneM2M" taking place on (to be decided), in New Delhi, India. This is a must-attend event that will focus on:
- the development of the oneM2M ecosystem, competence and certification centres in India,
- the progress being made in implementing oneM2M solutions in smart campus, smart cities and other industry sectors,
- the contributions various players (public authorities, industry, academia) are making to future developments of the standards.
Hosted by India’s Centre for Development of Telematics, C_DOT, the workshop will highlight the critical role the oneM2M standard plays in enabling mass adoption of the IoT across India. It will focus on how to develop the Indian oneM2M ecosystem and will give insights on oneM2M initiatives in the country. The event will end with a roundtable discussion on the different oneM2M applications, development and perspectives.

Today, sensors, actuators, tags, vehicles, and intelligent devices all have the ability to communicate. The number of IoT devices is continuously increasing, and it has been predicted to see billions of connected objects interconnected in the near future. IoT applications provide advantages in various domains from smart cities, factories of the future, connected cars, home automation, e-health to precision agriculture. This fast-growing ecosystem is leading IoT towards a promising future. However, IoT market expansion opportunities are not straightforward. A set of challenges should be overcome to enable IoT mass-scale deployment across various industries including interoperability, complexity, and scalability issues.
Currently, the IoT market is suffering from vertical fragmentation affecting the majority of business sectors. In fact, various vendor-specific IoT solutions have been designed independently for specific applications, which has led to serious interoperability issues. To address this challenge, the eight most important telecom SDOs in the world established a global partnership project called oneM2M. oneM2M provides a common architecture for IoT cross-domain interoperability in terms of communication and semantic data.
