The 4th NFV Plugtests report is now available for download!

In the context of the NFV Plugtests Programme, ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability organised the 4th NFV Plugtests™ event from 3 to 7 June 2019. The event was hosted in ETSI's headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France.

Overview

The 4th NFV Plugtests offered NFV and MEC solution providers and open source projects an opportunity to meet and assess the level of interoperability of their NFV and Edge solutions, while they validated their implementation of NFV and MEC specifications and APIs.

The event included a wide range of Test Sessions covering:

  • NFV Interoperability
  • NFV API Conformance
  • MEC and MEC-in-NFV Interoperability

Participation was open to organisations working on the following NFV and/or MEC solutions:

  • Virtual Network Functions: VNF, EM, VNFM
  • Management and Orchestration solutions: NFVO, VNFM
  • NFV Platforms: NFVI, VIM
  • Hardware
  • MEC Platforms, Platform Managers and Orchestrators
  • MEC Applications
  • Operations and Business Support Systems: OSS, BSS
  • Test Tools and simulators implementing NFV or MEC APIs.

Organisations interested in actively participating or providing support to the Test Sessions were invited to join the ETSI NFV Plugtests Programme and register to the 4th NFV Plugtests. Operators and academia were also invited to join as observers and contribute to the Test Plans.

The NFV Plugtests Programme was powered by the Hub for Interoperability and Validation at ETSI (HIVE) which interconnected participants’ labs and local test infrastructure in ETSI.

The Programme enjoyed a diverse community of over 65 organisations active in the NFV and MEC ecosystems, including vendors, operators, academia and supporting open source communities such as ETSI OSM, OPNFV, Open Baton, OpenStack, StarlingX, Open Air Interface Software Alliance, ONAP, OpenDayLight, Fog05 and SonataNFV.

The NFV Plugtests Programme activities offered a unique opportunity to exchange, collaborate and make significant progress in NFV and MEC implementations and standards.

ETSI Plugtests are supported by the European Commission.

The 4th NFV Plugtests included different types of Test Sessions covering:

  • NFV Interoperability
  • NFV API Conformance
  • MEC and MEC-in-NFV Interoperability

The 3rd NFV Plugtests Test Plan was updated to include:

  • ETSI NFV-SOL002 - RESTful protocols specification for the Ve-Vnfm Reference Point
  • ETSI NFV-SOL003 - RESTful protocols specification for the Or-Vnfm Reference Point
  • ETSI NFV-SOL005 - RESTful protocols specification for the Os-Ma-nfvo Reference Point
  • ETSI MEC003 – Framework and Reference Architecture
  • ETSI MEC017 – Report on Deployment of Mobile Edge Computing in an NFV environment.

NFV Interoperability focused on multi-vendor network services and multi-site deployments, covering aspects such as:

  • Onboarding, instantiation, termination
  • Life cycle management, network service updates, manual and automated scaling
  • Fault and Performance Management, VNF monitoring and closed-loop operations
  • Enhanced platform awareness, service function chaining

The MEC Interoperability track focused on testing basic MEC functionality in NFV deployments, such as:

  • On-boarding and instantiation of MEC applications
  • Local traffic steering capabilities
  • Exposure and usage of access network information

The NFV API Conformance track allowed participants to validate their NFV API implementations.

Participation to NFV Plugtests events requires joining the ETSI NFV Plugtests Programme and the signature of its non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

  • It is recommended for each participating organisation to have at least 2 representatives on-site.
  • On-site presence of at list one representative is mandatory to support the test sessions.
  • Event registration is mandatory for on-site representatives and will only be confirmed once the NDA signed.

The on-site event was preceded by a remote integration and pre-testing phase. Access to the remote test infrastructure is only provided once the NDA signed.

Participation to ETSI NFV Plugtests activities is free of charge.

Registration deadline was 15th March 2019.

This activity is supported by the European Commission.
