Technical Committee (TC) Smart Body Area Network (SmartBAN)

We are responsible for standardization to support the development and implementation of Smart Body Area Network (BAN) technologies (Wireless BAN, Personal BAN, Personal Networks, etc.) in health, wellness, leisure, sport and other relevant domains. These technologies use small, low power devices to support a range of medical, health improvement, personal safety and wellbeing, sport and leisure applications.

We are working on technical standards optimized for these Body Area Network applications, defining ultra-low-power radio communication, a lower complexity Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for extended autonomy, enhanced robustness in the presence of interference, and interoperability at different levels and when communicating over heterogeneous networks in the IoT. Other key issues addressed include Quality of Service, privacy and security aspects, and the provision of generic applications and services (e.g., web).
