DMR Testing

Private Mobile Radio (PMR) is an established technology serving a broad community of users. However, changes to the professional environment mean this traditional analogue service is no longer able to satisfy users' needs. Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is a direct digital replacement for analogue PMR. DMR specifically targets small to medium sized PMR systems in all areas where analogue PMR is currently applied. It will provide voice and data services.

To ensure the interoperability of DMR devices, protocol and signalling test cases have been specified. ETSI undertook the development of these test cases via a Specialist Task Force (STF 275). The test cases were written in TTCN-3 (Test and Test Control Notation). The TTCN-3 test cases specified are independent of the underlying DMR system simulator platforms and can be compiled using different TTCN-3 compilers.

STF 275 has completed its work; however, the work will continue to extend the test specification to Data and Trunking parts of the DMR specifications.
