GERAN

GERAN is the term given to the second-generation digital cellular GSM radio access technology, including its evolutions in the form of EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) and, for most purposes, the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS).

The acronym GERAN stands for GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network. GERAN is also the name of the 3GPP^TM Technical Specification Group responsible for its development.

The Technical Specifications which together comprise a 3GPP^TM system with a GSM/EDGE radio access network are listed in 3GPP^TM TS 41.101.
