Global Standards Producer

ICT markets are global by definition: networks operate across countries and continents, companies know no frontiers, people rely on the same services whether they are at home or roaming for work and leisure. Therefore the technical standards that enable those networks and services must be conceived from a global perspective from scratch.

With its membership coming from 62 countries on the six continents, ETSI works on a global basis and conceives its deliverables to be valid and applicable worldwide. The Institute has a track record of standards that are implemented on all continents, whether for fixed and mobile communications or for broadcast services.

This does not mean that ETSI intends to do it all by itself. On the one hand, with the convergence factor comes the need to integrate technical areas that were separate in the past (e.g. mobile and broadcast). On the other hand, global markets do not mean standardized markets requirements; the regional factor plays a key role when it comes to ensuring standards take into account the diversity of users' habits and expectations.

The global dimension is embedded in ETSI way of working: on average, 2500 experts from members companies and partner organizations, representing all possible regions and market segments work yearly in ETSI to produce standards and specifications.

In addition, ETSI entertains a pro-active partnership policy, in order to stay abreast and integrate in its production those technical and regional expertise/market requirements. Today, ETSI has relations with more than 70 partners worldwide, whether accredited standards organizations, industry forums, trade associations or regional organizations.
