European Standards Organization

ETSI is a recognized European Standards Organization (ESO), and as such produces standards and specifications that cater to the policy and regulation requirements of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

For that matter, ETSI cooperates with CEN and CENELEC as well as other European bodies and institutions.

Whether to fulfil the objectives of the EU internal market, those of a harmonized use of the radio spectrum across the 27 European countries or to fulfil policy objectives (e.g. e-Europe 2010 and the Lisbon agenda), EU policy makers issue mandates aiming at the production of targeted specifications.

In such cases, the European standards organizations (ETSI, CEN and CENELEC) are consulted and may participate in the production of those standards and specifications.
