PLUGTESTS THE INTEROPERABILITY SERVICE

Grids, Clouds & Service Infrastructures

The telecommunication industry is facing the continuous challenge of finding technologies to support new, more data and processing intensive services coupled with an ever increasing demand, increased need for flexibility, as well as growing globalization in the implementation of its next generation networks (NGN).

ETSI TC Grid – a committee composed of major telecom operators and equipment vendors – believes that grid as well as cloud computing are key technologies in addressing these challenges. In order to warrant its success in the telecommunication industry TC Grid has been working on improving the interoperability between different products in this domain by producing standard solutions such as the Grid Component Model (GCM).

The interoperability demonstration intends to provide the telecommunication & IT community with a better picture regarding state-of-the-art products in this domain as well as the adoption of agreed specifications and standards. Unlike previous ETSI grid related Plugtests, which have essentially been a programming contest limited to deployment on a fixed grid infrastructure, the aim is of this Plugtests is to demonstrate resource reservation and deployment of test applications onto different cluster, (grid) middleware, cloud computing infrastructures based on use cases defined as part of an ETSI TC Grid test specification.

The interoperability demonstration is closely coupled to the GCSI workshop and is expected to be attended by representatives from major telecom & IT equipment manufacturers, operators, ETSI technical committees, and other standardization organizations active in this domain.

Benefits of attending this demonstration include:

  • A first evaluation of current state-of-the art products from this domain in the area of resource reservation and application deployment – all participating products will be demonstrated based on the same use scenarios. Demonstrations can also include other product specific capabilities.

  • The collection of feedback on the ETSI test specification and information for the future extension of ETSI GCM standards.

  • The ability to demonstrate as well as observe the operation of latest state of the art products which implement grid, cloud or related technologies.
