VoIP technology fulfils Voice ATM requirements
Convergence of Voice and Data into one network is observed on the market. As a consequence the Air Traffic Management Voice communication infrastructure is evolving to integrate this convergence.
The capability of voice over IP technology may fulfil and improve operational and technical Air Traffic Management communication requirements, including voice/data convergence, specific quality of service (QoS), security and safety requirements.
EUROCAE WG67 defines standards guaranteeing ATM VoIP interoperability
EUROCAE, thanks to its working group 67 (WG67), including system and equipment suppliers, main European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP), FAA and Eurocontrol, defines for Ground-Ground ATS voice communications and Ground-Ground part of air-ground ATS Voice communication, interoperable interfaces between Voice Communication systems (VCS), Voice recording systems, Supervision systems, Ground radio stations and all IP network elements to guarantee safe and secure voice communications in an Air Traffic Management environment.
Plugtests Event consolidates standards definition and prepares EATM Voice products provision
In order to consolidate this definition a Plugtests Event is organised by ETSI and implemented by Suppliers and ANSPs at Sophia Antipolis to test the Interoperability of the first implementations compliant with the current EUROCAE WG67 works. This Plugtests™event will reinforce interoperability by enabling the identification of areas for improvements, by detecting errors and ambiguities within the current draft standards at the earliest stage, and finally speeds up the process of providing ATM VoIP products to the market in order to contribute to the implementation of the future European ATM system defined in the framework of SESAR.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 Plugtests™ Event
The first Plugtests™ event covering Stage 1 tests was held in April 2008 in which a series of simple
interoperability tests were performed (extracted from the draft EUROCAE document ED-139).
The second Plugtests™ event covering Stage 2 tests has the scope of performing all the remaining SIP Telephone and Radio interface
interoperability tests defined in the EUROCAE document ED-139 as part of interoperability over a
Local Area Network. It will take place from 30th March to 3rd April 2009.
Newcomers which have not yet performed the Stage 1 tests and wishing to participate at the second Plugtests™ event are given the opportunity to perform Stage 1 tests in the week prior to the second Plugtests™ event, from 25th March to 27th March.
