ETSI plays a key role in the development of electronic signature related standards, including XAdES (TS 101 903), CAdES (TS 101 733), PAdES (ETSI TS 102 778) and TSL (TS 102 231).
ASiC (TS 102 918) is one of the latest AdES related signature formats being developed by ETSI. To date there has been no interoperability event related to ASiC signatures which means that developers have not yet had the opportunity to check their implementations against those of other implementers.
This also means that the ASiC specification itself has not been checked in the context of interoperability testing with implementers exchanging ASiC signatures generated when following a set of carefully selected and defined test cases.
Throughout 2011 and 2012, the ETSI STF428 (Specialist Task Force) and CTI have been working on the preparation of the test suite which will lead to this first remote interoperability event for ASiC.
This event aims to conduct interoperability test cases on ASiC signatures. This will include a set of specific test cases as defined in the Test Suite ETSI TS 119 164-2. It provides full test coverage of the specification related to the ASiC standard, including both Simple and Extended container forms with CAdES and XAdES signatures.
This Plugtests event will enable participants to conduct 2 types of tests:
1. Generation and cross-verification (Positive) tests.
Each participant is invited to generate a set of valid ASiC signatures with certain characteristics (generation). The rest of the participants are invited afterwards to verify these signatures (cross-verification). The Plugtests portal automatically generates an updated set of interoperability matrixes.
2. Only-verification (Negative) tests.
ETSI has generated a number of invalid ASiC signatures by different reasons. Each participant may verify these signatures, checking in this way that the corresponding tool actually detects that the signature is not valid.
As this is a REMOTE event, there will be no need for the participants to travel to the ETSI premises and all signature exchanges and verifications will be performed via the dedicated portal http://xades-portal.etsi.org.
