ETSI selected for special Research session at 2022 EuCNC & 6G Summit

Sophia Antipolis, 11 May 2022

ETSI is pleased to have been selected for a special session at 2022 EuCNC & 6G Summit, on 9 June 2022 in Grenoble, France. Entitled Research results impacting B5G and 6G through Standardization, it will be jointly chaired by Markus Mueck, Chair of the ETSI board RISE (Research, Innovation and Standards Ecosystem) group, and Riccardo Trivisonno, Chair of 6G-IA Pre-Standardization Working Group. The latter represents industry in the novel Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU) which is Europe’s key funding framework for future 6G and related technology.

If you are a researcher, come to learn WHY, HOW and WHEN to approach standardization in order to take your research results, via standards, towards industry adoption and onto global deployments. In the meantime, you can discover ETSI’s dedicated page: ETSI for researchers.

Researchers often raise the question on how to capitalize on mature innovative concepts and take them towards industrial adoption. Standardization is identified as one suitable means to achieve this objective; however, it is often not easy for researchers to be aware of the necessary steps to follow in key standardization bodies such as ETSI and 3GPP.

This 90-minute session will demonstrate how ETSI may be used as a vehicle to concretely bridge the R&I standardization gap for the projects that will eventually be selected for SNS-JU funded activities. Projects implemented as parts of national 6G initiatives in Europe are also relevant in that context. The session will facilitate the dialogue between researchers and standards experts and provide guidance to researchers using real case studies from Horizon Europe projects through a keynote, short presentations and a panel session.

This ETSI session will be the first event of a series appearing regularly at each future EUCNC edition. The aim is for a continuous improvement of technology transfer from research projects to standards and at presenting achievements and work in progress of SNS-JU funded projects.

The 2022 EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: EuCNC (European Conference on Networks and Communications), supported by the European Commission, and the 6G Summit, originated from the 6G Flagship programme in Finland, one of the very first in its area. The conference brings together cutting-edge research and world-renown industries and businesses, globally attracting in the last years more than 1 300 delegates from more than 40 countries all over the world. This year, the event will include 8 Workshops, 5 Tutorials and 9 Special Sessions.
