ETSI to enable development of Reconfigurable Radio Systems (RRS)
ETSI Headquarters, Sophia Antipolis, France - 19th February 2008
ETSI today announces the creation of its new Technical Committee for Reconfigurable Radio Systems - TC RRS.
The inaugural meeting of TC RRS takes place March 19–20, 2008 at ETSI Headquarters, Sophia Antipolis - France. All ETSI members are invited to attend.
Significant amounts of research have now been carried out by collaborative R&D projects within the field of reconfigurable radio systems, funded by the European Commission (EC), and ETSI members have played a leading role in this forward-looking activity.
ETSI is strongly-committed to supporting innovation in ICT. The creation of ETSI Technical Committee RRS underlines this and leverages the valuable results of EC-funded research on Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Cognitive Radio (CR) whilst drawing standardization ever-nearer to research.
Reconfigurable Radio Systems (RRS) are based on technologies such as SDR and CR whose systems exploit the capabilities of reconfigurable radio and networks for self-adaptation to a dynamically-changing environment with the aim of ensuring end-to-end connectivity.
ETSI Director-General, Walter Weigel said:
"A real opportunity now exists for the development and deployment of globally-applicable Standards for Reconfigurable Radio Systems in a highly-flexible and innovative environment and ETSI is now perfectly placed to assist in the enablement of this development".
