The 1st ETSI Smart Cities Workshop, 3-4 June 2013 at Sophia Antipolis, will be dedicated to examining the major issues that face city authorities and the enabling infrastructure providers who are building the cities of tomorrow. Such issues include, choice of technology, engaging with the citizens, cyber security and data privacy, business models and clarification of the roles of the major actors.

A European Conference organized by CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, Orgalime and the SMEST project, supported by the European Commission and EFTA.

In December 2012 ETSI launched the Cloud Standardization Coordination initiative. The initiative was launched in response to a request to ETSI from the EC to coordinate with stakeholders in the cloud standards ecosystems and devise standards roadmaps in support of EU policy in critical areas such as security, interoperability, data portability and reversibility.

Future Networks will integrate existing and upcoming technologies into a heterogeneous and highly dynamic resource pool. Virtualization and federation will allow operation of multiple distinguished networked services, tailored to different needs, on the same physical infrastructure.

As part of the 61st General Assembly on 19-20 March 2013, ETSI will celebrate 25 years of successsful standards making for European and global markets, with a Gala Dinner being held on the evening of 19 March.

All ETSI Members have been invited, with special guests including some attendees of that very first General Assembly.

The fifth ETSI Workshop on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is scheduled for 05-06 February 2013. The event will be jointly hosted by AustriaTech, ASFINAG and Kapsch TrafficCom in the city of Vienna, Austria.

Towards the introduction of reconfigurable radio systems in Europe

The Cloud Plugfest Series was originated by the Open Grid Forum (OGF) and SNIA in 2011. This event is the 7th plugfest in that series and is proudly co-organised by OGF, the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Co-hosting this event are the SNIA CSI and ETSI in the US and Europe, respectively.

By 2015, the worldwide market for cloud products and services is estimated to reach between € 50 bn and € 80 bn. Cloud computing is a factor for change thanks to an increased efficiency of computer infrastructure utilization and standardized offers leading to lower costs.
