IoT COAP 2 Plugtests

Following the success of the first Internet of Things CoAP PlugtestsTM event, it has been decided to organize a second event in 2012. ETSI PlugtestsTM, the IPSO Alliance and the FP7 Probe-it project have organized the second IoT CoAP PlugtestsTM , taking place from 28 to 30 November 2012 in Sophia Antipolis, France.

PlugtestsTM event was aimed at M2M system vendors, operators, software vendors and research institutes to assess the interoperability of their products and to validate the CORE base standards.

A workshop was also held adjacent to the PlugtestsTM on Tuesday 27 November. The aim of this workshop was to provide PlugtestsTM participants and any other interested parties an opportunity to meet, discuss and disseminate topics such as Embedded Web Services, Introduction to CORE, New CORE features, Architecture and Integration with ETSI M2M.

Similar to the first event, conformance and interoperability test scenarios based on the IETF CoRE standards for M2M were the main topics.

In particular, ETSI enabled to assess for the interoperability of different CoAP implementations for features including:

  • The base CoAP specification
  • CoAP Block Transfer
  • CoAP Observation
  • The CoRE Link Format

The test scenarios focused on server and client CoAP end-point implementations and products with these features. IRISA's Passive Trace Validation Tool was also available. Also ETSI's Test Reporting Tool and Scheduling Tool was provided.

In addition to the test scenarios proposed as the first plugtest, the following tests were achieved on:

  • Proxy
  • Security DTLS
  • IPSO Application Template
  • Full set of options
  • Resource Directory
  • Basic ETSI M2M CoAP binding tests
