eHealth / Connectathon 2010
The goal of the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative is to stimulate integration of healthcare information resources to improve clinical care. ETSI has a unique experience of automated interoperability testing. The objective of ETSI's proactive participation and contribution to Connectathon 2010 was to provide these services in the wider context of the global IHE community.
The Connectathon 2010, organized by IHE-Europe is a ‘connectivity marathon' during which systems exchange information with complementary systems from multiple vendors, performing all of the transactions required for the roles they are implementing. The primary objective of Connectathon 2010 was to test different IHE profiles form five different domains - Radiology, Cardiology, IT Infrastructure, Laboratory and Patient Care Coordination. The ETSI activity focussed on the PIX profile from IT infrastructure domain. The objective was to demonstrate the capabilities of TTCN-3 based technology for testing eHealth systems.
A total of 2,250 interoperability tests were carried out and of these 1,950 passed. 80 profiles and 94 systems were tested in five domains (Radiology, Cardiology, ITInfrastructure, Laboratory and Patient Care Coordination) by 66 companies bringing together over 250 engineers. For the first time, the Connectathon was entirely managed by Gazelle, the test management tool developed by IHE (http://gazelle.ihe.net/). The results and experience were so well received that IHE have asked that ETSI repeat the cooperation in 2011 (with an extended technical scope).
The ETSI contribution to Connectathon 2010 was presented at the HL 7 Jahrestagung 2010, Berlin, during the ETSI EP eHEALTH Meeting #15, Sophia-Antipolis, France, 26 May 2010 as well as during the International Conference on Application of Information and Communication Technologies (AICT) , 12 Oct - 14 Oct 2010, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
