Quality

Our concern for high quality is expressed in two main directions: the quality of our standards and services, as well as the quality of our operations, particularly those of the ETSI Secretariat.

The ETSI Secretariat is committed to Member, Staff and Customer satisfaction, and to fulfilling our Members' and Customers' expectations of the quality of ETSI deliverables and services in terms of:

  • High product quality
  • Short lead times
  • Low cost

In 1992, the ETSI General Assembly endorsed the decision of the (then) Technical Assembly to introduce Total Quality Management in the ETSI Secretariat. We obtained our first International Quality Standard ISO 9002 Certificate on 1st March 1994, since when it has been successfully renewed every three years. Since 2009, our certification has been aligned to the new ISO Standard 9001:2008.

ISO 9001:2008 is based on eight quality management principles that reflect best management practices in terms of:

  • Customer focus
  • Leadership
  • Involvement of people
  • Process approach
  • System approach to management
  • Continual improvement
  • Factual approach to decision making
  • Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

The present certificate states that the Quality Management System (QMS) of the Institute's Secretariat meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 with the following scope:

'All processes facilitating the sales, production and maintenance of technical specifications and the support to the Board, the General Assembly, the Technical Organization and Special Committees, administrative, legal, standard production and Information Technology processes, as well as processes related to services to other bodies.'

ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a Quality Management System that can be used by organizations for internal operations, or for certification, or for contractual purposes. It focuses on the effectiveness of the Quality Management System in meeting customer requirements.

ISO 9001:2008 is part of the ISO 9000 family of international quality management standards and guidelines that has earned a global reputation as the basis for establishing quality management systems. This family has been developed by the International Standards Organization which was established in 1947 as a non-governmental world-wide federation of national standards bodies from almost 160 countries, one from each country. In this context, when you purchase a product or service from an organization that is registered to the appropriate ISO 9000 standard, you have important assurances that the quality of what you receive will be as you expect.
