European Harmonization

ETSI is responsible for the preparation of Harmonized Standards under the European Commissions R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC). These Harmonized Standards enable providers of equipment and services to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the Directive, and thus be able to sell, deploy and operate them within the European Union.

Current activity includes Harmonized Standards covering Earth Stations on Vessels and Trains (ESV/EST) operating in Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) frequency bands.

Other Harmonized Standards previously prepared include:

  • Ku band Aeronautical Satellite Earth Stations (AES-Ku )
  • VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) Ku band
  • Satellite Interactive Terminals (SIT)/Satellite User Terminals (SUT) (Ka band emission)
  • Satellite component of IMT 2000
  • Mobile Earth Stations (MESs) of Geostationary mobile satellite systems, including handheld earth stations, for Satellite Personal Communications Networks (S-PCN)
  • Mobile Earth Stations (MES) providing Low Bit Rate Data Communications (LBRDC) using Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites
  • Land Mobile satellite Earth Stations (LMES) and Maritime Mobile satellite Earth Stations (MMES)
  • Low data rate Mobile satellite Earth Stations (MESs) except aeronautical mobile satellite earth stations
  • Satellite News Gathering Transportable Earth Stations (SNG TES).

The following is a list of recently published and frequently downloaded standards. Please use the ETSI Work Programme to find further related standards.
