QoS QoE User Experience Workshop

QoS / QoE / User experience
Focusing on speech / multimedia conference tools

21 -22 September 2010, Sophia Antipolis

EcransIn the context of the Green Agenda, teleconference meetings appear to be a potential alternative to physical meetings. However experience shows that the quality of teleconference services offered to the users is of major concern. The definition of Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) required for such systems is a challenge.

ETSI TC STQ has made substantial progress during the last years defining QoS requirements for a variety of systems from the users point of view, including speech terminal. These results can be used as a basis to be applied for speech/multimedia conference tools.

ETSI TC HF has developed guidelines on real-time communication services to provide guidelines for network operators, equipment manufacturers and service providers that address the user experience of different communication services in terms of either the configuration and QoS of a particular communication service or the best choice between different communication services, where user experience data exists to enable recommendations on the basis of set up time, reliability, type of user tasks and user situations.

Recent progresses in the field of QoS/QoE/user experience, in particular as results of STFs will be shared with the stake holders (in particular STF 354, STF 374, STF 375).

Agenda available

The workshop is organised by ETSI TC STQ, User Group and TC HF and will provide results of STFs 354, 374 & 375.

The workshop key goals are to present and discuss the following topics:

  • What are the users expectations? Could the requirements and equipement be different for different tasks? What training is required for the different users?
  • Feedback from users of their experience of the applications in various uses (eg medical teleconference, within vehicles, in the context of home networking, standardization bodies, education…).
  • What are the benefits of 3D technologies for teleconferencing?
  • What are the needs for standardization to increase the number of implementations and tools?
  • How to implement performance testing methodologies in the context of teleconferencing?
Are the current tools (models for speech and video quality evaluation) sufficient to characterize communications in context of conference call?
  • What will be the next generation of electronic tools? Virtual meeting rooms, telepresence systems?
  • What are the requirements and quality criteria for video when added to speech communications?
  • What are the minimum requirements for rooms characteristics used for teleconferences?
  • What are the approaches of other SDOs when implementing and using electronic tools for meetings?
  • Conference bridges. What are the consequences when user equipment implement different bandwidth (narrowband, wideband, superwideband)?
