SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP were to:

  • Discuss the effects of transmission performance of access, core and home networks on the quality of multimedia services, as perceived by the user;
  • Discuss the effect of interaction between networks and endpoints (terminals) on multimedia quality as perceived by the user;
  • Present the results of experiments and/or of quality modelling for services combining several media (voice, audio, video, data);
  • Exchange information and establish relationships between research, state and industrial organizations involved in the topic;
  • Analyse the implications for the delivery of new services on Next Generation Networks (NGN) (e.g. IMS)

KEY TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDED :

  • Effect on quality of errors and packet loss for any type of multimedia services and for all types of access and terminals;

  • Relationships between transmission bandwidth and multimedia quality;

  • Media interaction effects on perceived multimedia quality;

  • Prediction of user perception by multimedia quality modelling.
