ETSI’s annual flagship event returned in 2023. The 2023 edition of the ETSI IoT Conference - IoT Technologies for Green and Digital Transformation - took place on 4-5-6 July 2023 in ETSI premises, Sophia Antipolis, France and online.

This gathering of IoT experts has become the must-attend event for anyone involved in IoT and who understands the importance of standard-enabled technologies for IoT service deployments.

The event offered attendees the opportunity to learn and share experiences related to IoT technologies, services, activities, requirements, looking at present and future standardization work.

The 2023 edition featured the ETSI IoT Conference and IoT demonstrations, offering a mix of keynote speeches, presentations, interactive panels, IoT demonstrations, with many networking opportunities.

The 2023 edition focused on:

IoT for the digital and green transformation.
IoT technologies, including but not limited to ontologies, digital twins, edge computing, IoT security, SAREF, oneM2M.
Horizontal IoT standards for the vertical business sectors, including but not limited to smart cities, energy and grid, smart agriculture and precise farming, lift & buildings, maritime services.

By attending the face-to-face event in ETSI, attendees were offered a unique opportunity to come together to exchange with experts, network with other IoT stakeholders, visit the demonstrations, share experiences and actively contribute to the shaping of future IoT solutions and standards.

Online participation was possible, for attendees to follow the conference presentations and panels. For the full and optimal event experience, face to face attendance in ETSI premises was highly recommended.

The ETSI IoT Conference (formerly ETSI IoT Week) was of particular interest to organizations and stakeholders (including verticals) interested in the service and operational areas of IoT: industry, SMEs, R&D and academia, decision and policy makers, users of the IoT standards such as cities, governments, and societal actors.

Biographies

Laurent Andriantisferana, Cisco
Laurent Andriantsiferana joined Cisco in 2000 and is currently Senior Architect in the Customer Experience organization focusing on Industrial IoT. He joined in San Jose as an engineering tech lead for the Mobile Wireless BU, developing products and solution for SP Mobile Internet Edge. He was part of the core team who won the Cisco Engineering Pioneer Award in 2004.. Since 2011 he has been focusing on IoT, leading solution architecture related to Internet of Things and Smart City (parking, lighting, traffic, waste, etc) . He architected and lead the deployment in various Smart City projects in Nice, Barcelona, Hamburg, Dubai. Laurent has represented Cisco in standards organizations such as 3GPP, ETSI, oneM2M, LORA Alliance.Most recently Laurent has been focusing on emerging on Industrial IoT, with engagement in different projects and deployment with Utility, Mining, Transportation, Manufacturing customers.Laurent holds a MSc degree in Computer Science from Universite Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France and 14 USPTO patents.

Martin Bauer, NEC Laboratories Europe
Dr. Martin Bauer is a Senior Standardization Engineer in the Data Ecosystems and Standards group at the NEC Laboratories Europe (NLE) in Heidelberg, Germany. He received his MSc in Computer and Information Science from the University of Oregon, USA, in 1998, and both his Dipl. Inf. and his doctorate degree from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2000 and 2007 respectively. In 2005 he joined the NEC Laboratories Europe (NLE), where he has been working on context and IoT related research projects as well as standardization activities in the same areas. Currently, he is contributing to standardization activities, in particular NGSI-LD in ETSI ISG CIM, where he is a vice-chair. He is also active in the area of Data Spaces and participates in Gaia-X. Previously he has contributed to oneM2M. Furthermore, he is the AIOTI WG03 chair for the semantic interoperability expert group and a member of the FIWARE Technical Steering Committee.

Cornelis Bouter, TNO
Cornelis Bouter: works at the Dutch applied research organization TNO as a scientist on semantic interoperability.
He obtained both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence programme at Utrecht University, with a graduation thesis on ontologies for explainable AI supervised by prof. dr. mr. Henry Prakken.
He is active in the ETSI SmartM2M standardization work of the SAREF ontology suite.

Scott Cadzow, C3L (Cadzow Communications Consulting Ltd)
Appointed as an ETSI Fellow in 2023 Scott has a number of years of experience in standardisation at ETSI. Whilst often focussing on security it is in the application of security across technologies that are the standout characteristic of his career. In domains including eHealth and ITS, in AI and in the integration of transparency and applicability in the use of security technologies, that ensure ETSI is able to address the societal role of security and privacy in ICT, Scott has along the way helped to provide guidance and standards to solve problems.

Nicola Ciulli, CNA
Nicola Ciulli is co-founder and Head of R&D activities at Nextworks (2002), an Italian SME with a lot of investment in R&D activities. He holds a degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Pisa and SSSUP S.Anna. Within Nextworks, he coordinates the team in charge of R&D and consulting activities, spanning various technology domains, such as 5G, 6G, IoT, cloud and edge computing. Since 1997, he managed and participated in several industrial projects for customers (e.g. telco manufacturers and network operators), and in EC and ESA funded collaborative projects (60+). He has (co)authored 80+ scientific publications, and served as external expert across several European research framework programmes. He is currently sitting in the Board of the 6G Infrastructure Association and in the Steering Board of the NetworldEurope ETP. In CNA, he is serving as National President of CNA Digitale, which groups 2000+ members in the field of digital technologies.

Sylvie Couronné, Fraunhofer IIS
Sylvie Couronné graduated 1987 in Electrical Engineering – High Frequency Technologies – in Paris and is today working in the Department “Precise Positioning and Analytics” of Fraunhofer IIS.
She previously led the development and implementation of RF ICs for digital broadcasting and satellite navigation applications.
Her activities centered then on the development of new concepts and specifications of embedded localization systems to support the implementation of context aware services for different applications like Industrial IoT.
Since few years, her core research work is focused on resource efficient ICT and sustainability issues of ICT technologies and 6G.
Moreover, she has the role of Research Manager as IP Manager in the Division Locating and Communication of Fraunhofer IIS.

James Deacon, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
James Deacon is the Head of International Standards, International Engagement and Non-Consumer IoT Policy for the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). He is a member of standards committees working on IoT in ETSI, ISO, and ITU, a member of the World Economic Forum’s ‘Role of Government’ group for consumer IoT, and previously chaired the Agile Nations Working Group for IoT. He previously worked for DCMS on the development of the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act that introduces security requirements for consumer IoT products. James has wider experience of working at a cyber security start-up and a boutique investment bank.

Kaustabh Debbarman, LAAVAT
Kaustabh Debbarman Laavat began his journey with LAAVAT in 2017, when digital transformation was rapidly changing the world. Drawing on his extensive experience in leading the development of solutions to protect hundreds of millions of smart and connected devices at Nokia and Microsoft, he sought to use this knowledge to help businesses mitigate cybersecurity risks in a connected world.
LAAVAT is an IoT security company based in Finland, specializing in helping manufacturers of controllers, IoT gateways, and sensors to build devices that comply with industry-leading security standards like IEC 62443. His goal is to ensure that LAAVAT is the go-to choice for our customers when it comes to their IoT security needs, while also creating a positive and rewarding work environment for our employees.

Alberto Dognini, Fraunhofer FIT
Alberto Dognini received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2014. From 2015 to 2017, he worked as the Engineering Project Manager at ABB - Electrification Products Division, Dalmine, Italy, managing the revamping of medium voltage protection apparatus and switchgears. From 2017 to 2023, he has worked as Research Assistant with the Institute for Automation of Complex Power Systems, E.ON Energy Research Center, RWTH Aachen University, Germany. In 2022 he joined as Research Associate the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT), Center for Digital Energy, Aachen, Germany. He has been working in several German and European research projects, focusing on the development of energy services and automation systems to improve digitalization and resiliency of power system grids.

Rhys Duncan, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
Rhys Duncan is a policy advisor working on Enterprise IoT Policy, Standards, and International Engagement within the IoT Product Security Team for the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). He is also a member of standards committees working on IoT in ETSI, ISO, and ITU. He previously worked as a broker in the cyber insurance sector for Marsh McLennan.

Bob Flynn, Exacta Global Smart Solutions
Bob Flynn is an Internet of Things professional recognized for his ability to architect solutions for clients to meet project needs. His unique talent in oneM2M architecture and design is supported by his strengths in R&D, Team Management, Solution Architecture, and hands on development. He is recognized as a subject matter expert in oneM2M for standards development, implementation, and testing. Bob’s expertise stems from 20 years of experience in Research and Development in oneM2M and 3GPP global standards. In his recent position as Architect for oneM2M at Chordant, Bob led the incubation of interworking oneM2M with 3GPP 4G/5G IoT capabilities. Bob is the Vice Chair of the Test and Development Ecosystem (TDE) at oneM2M. Bob is a full member of ETSI as a SME (Small and Medium Enterprises).

Dr. Paolo Gemma, ITU-T
Paolo Gemma is a senior specialist and representative of Huawei Digital Power on issues related to energy saving and environmental sustainability. Prior to joining Huawei, Dr. Gemma was working with Nokia Siemens Networks, where he was responsible for EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and electrical safety areas. He also worked in the Siemens Communications Division. Dr. Paolo Gemma also plays an active role in international standardization activities. Since 1993, he has been engaged in ETSI (European Telecommunication Standard Institute) activities and he also participates in the development of EMC standards. In 1997, Dr. Gemma joined ITU-T Study Group 5 on Environment, Climate Change, and Circular Economy as a Rapporteur and he is now the Chairman of Working Party 2 “Environment, Energy Efficiency and the Circular Economy”. He also acts as Vice-chairmen of the United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) initiative. In 2002, Paolo Gemma was appointed as the Secretary of the Committee ETSI TC EE and as of 2009, he holds the position of Chairman of the EEPS EE(eco Environmental product standard) working group and Vice chairman of EE WG EE2 (Power supply). Paolo Gemma is a graduate of electrical engineering from the University of Genoa.

Isabel Gonzalez Cuenca, Joint Research Centre (JRC) - European Commission
Isabel González Cuenca is an industrial engineer displaying twenty year experience in different energy domains (renewables, smart grids, hydrogen, communication protocols, and energy savings).
Currently, she is working for the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Petten in the team of interoperability supporting the initiative of DG ENER to develop a Code of Conduct for Energy Smart Appliances.

Beniamino Gorini, Nokia
Beniamino Gorini has a master degree in Electronic Engineer from Politecnico of Milano, Italy and since 1987 he has been working in telecommunication industries in Research & Development department and in product compliance & regulatory matters. He is now in charge of the Environmental Compliance laboratories in Nokia Italy and highly contributes in Nokia for the standardization on Environmental matters.
Since more than 35 years he has been involved in standardization bodies (i.e. IEC, ITU-T, ETSI, CENELEC) with main focus on environmental and eco-environmental, electromagnetic compatibility, power supply distributions/interfaces and safety topics for ICTs. He has various roles in International Standardization bodies and, to cite few of them, he is currently chairman of the ETSI TC “Environmental Engineering” and Vice-chairman of ITU-T SG5 “EMF, environment, climate action, sustainable digitalization, and circular economy”.

Dr. Fatma-Zohra Hannou, Ecole des Mines Saint-Etienne
Fatma-Zohra Hannou is a postdoctoral researcher at Ecole des Mines Saint-Etienne. She carries out her research work within the ISI research team on the French ANR project ""Constrained Semantic Web of Things"" (COSWOT). As a postdoc, she also participated in the European project SAFECARE, providing semantic web solutions for cyber-physical security within healthcare organizations.
Fatma-Zohra holds a PhD in computer science from Sorbonne University (Paris, 2019), where she completed her thesis on the representation and evaluation of data completeness in the context of the Internet of Things applications. Before her PhD, Fatma-Zohra completed a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence from Sorbonne University (Paris, 2015) and a computer science engineering diploma from Ecole Supérieure d'Informatique (Algeria, 2013). Her research topics focus on linked data, semantic web, data quality and analysis. She authored about ten papers in international conferences and journals, hosted several talks, and earned one best paper award (DBKDA, 2019).

Roland Hechwartner, oneM2M TP Chair, Deutsche Telekom
Roland Hechwartner works at T-Mobile International Austria, in the Standardization and IPR Management department, where he is responsible for standardization activities of Deutsche Telekom in the service domain. He was elected for the oneM2M Technical Plenary Chairman position in 2018; before he has served as Vice Chairman of the Technical Plenary for two terms (2014-2018). Since 2005 he has been working as delegate for Deutsche Telekom in several standardization organizations.

Laurens Hernalsteen, CEN & CENELEC
I have a background as a computer engineer with experience in Research & Development. In my current role, working for CEN and CENELEC, European Standardization Organizations, I have been responsible for ICT-related Standardization for the past 2,5 years, with a special focus on Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.

Rana Kamill, ETSI/British Telecom Plc
Rana Kamill is an IoT Ecosystem Architecture Solution Manager at BT. She is currently the vice chair of Working Party 1 in ITU-T SG 20 (IoT and Smart cities and communities (SC&C). Before moving to the Architecture and Technology strategy area, Rana was a Security consultant providing consultancy across BT’S all Customer Facing Units. Rana represents BT in various standards body like ETSI, oneM2M, 3GPP and the ITU-T. Rana has over a decade of experience in Research and Academia and the Telecommunications industry and a strong passion for IoT, Cyber Security and developing technical standards.

Dr. Georgios Karagiannis, Huawei Technology Dusseldorf GmbH
dr. ir. Georgios Karagiannis holds a Ph.D. degree and a M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente, the Netherlands. In 1998 he joined the Wireless Multimedia Research unit of Ericsson Eurolab Netherlands in Enschede, Netherlands, where he stayed until April 2003. From April 2003 to August 2014 he worked as Assistant Professor at the Design and Analysis of Communication Systems (DACS) group of the University of Twente. In September 2014 he joined Huawei Technologies Düsseldorf GmbH as Principal Strategist in Standardization and Industry Development. He participated in several SDOs and alliances, such as AIOTI, IETF, ETSI, BBF and OSGi Alliance. Within (1) the AIOTI he serves as the chair of the AIOTI WG standardisation, chair of the AIOTI Digital for Climate taskforce and served as the AIOTI Steering Board Chair in 2020, (2) the European Observatory StandICT.eu as chair of TWG IoT and Edge, (2) the OSGi Alliance he held a position as alternate member of the Board of Directors until November 2018, (3) the BBF, he held editing positions in the context of Cloud Central Office (CloudCO) and 5G Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) activities. Recently he represented AIOTI in the SNS JU Work Programme 2021-2022 taskforce, the TransContinuum Initiative and the DEI/MSP Work Group.

Gürkan Kirca, Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure
After receiving a degree in Cyber Security from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Gürkan Kirca started working at the Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure as an inspector focusing on the Internet of Things. He has built up an IoT Testing Laboratory where IoT products can be tested on their cyber security in preparation of upcoming regulation. Past years he has tested various products with the help of the ETSI EN 303 645 standard and has presented in ETSI TC CYBER en ETSI Security Week 2022 that this standard can be put to use to measure the cyber security of IoT products.

Joachim Koss, JK Consulting and Projects
Joachim Koss is the founder of JK Consulting and Projects, a registered member of ETSI and its Partnership Project oneM2M. His consulting firm supports companies in the area of Machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
His previous professional positions included various management roles in several telecommunication companies comprising Siemens, Gemalto and others.
His activities in standardisation implied the role of an ETSI Board member for six years, Vice Chairman of ETSI Technical Committee SmartM2M for four years and Vice Chairman of oneM2M’s Technical Plenary for two years. He led two ETSI Specialist Task Forces on IoT standards, generating several ETSI Technical Reports.
His current focus is on Semantic Interoperability. Presently he leads the ETSI Specialist Task Force on SAREF Digital Twins.

Andreas Kraft, Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH
Andreas Kraft works in the field of connected home and IoT technologies, architecturs and infrastructures for more than 20 years. He represents Deutsche Telekom in national and international standardization consortia, and is an active contributor to the oneM2M specifications and various oneM2M open source projects. Andreas is also the maintainer of Smart Device Template that helps to model real-world functionalities and devices on top of oneM2M's data models.

Dr. Srdjan Krčo, DunavNET
Srđan Krčo received his PhD in electrical engineering in 2005 for the work on remote health monitoring systems. He was with Ericsson for over 10 years, working on the development of 3G networks, M2M and IoT technologies. Since 2010, Srđan manages DunavNET, a company he co-founded. DunavNET designs turnkey solutions based on IoT and ML/AI technologies for agriculture, manufacturing, and cities.
He is active in international collaborative research and innovation projects (e.g., H2020, Horizon Europe) and is teaching IoT, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship at several universities in Europe and Africa. Srdjan has a dozen patents in his name and has published a large number of papers in international journals and conferences. Srđan received the Innovation Engineer of the Year award in 2007 from the Irish Institute of Engineers and is being awarded Microsoft MVP annual award since 2018.

Sushil Kumar, Dy. Director General - Internet of Things, TEC, DoT, MoC, Government of India
Sushil Kumar is an officer of the 1987 batch of Indian Telecommunication services (ITS). He has done his graduation in Electronics and Communications Engineering in 1987 and Master in Computer Science & Technology in 1989 from University of Roorkee (presently known as Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee).
With more than 30 years of experience in Telecom, IoT & ICT, he is presently working as Deputy Director General in TEC and leading the IoT activities.
In his current role, he created framework for finalizing specifications in IoT domain, with industry collaboration and in sync with global SDOs. Developed & released 19 Technical Reports (TRs) covering various verticals, Communication technologies and IoT Security. He is the Chairman of ITU-T SG-20 (IoT and Smart cities & communities) Regional Group for Asia Pacific, Vice Chair of ITU-T SG-20 WP-II, and Vice Chair of ITU-T SG-20 Focus Group on AI and IoT for Digital Agriculture. He is also the member of ISO-IEC-ITU Joint Smart City Task force (J-SCTF).
In India, he is the Chairman of National committees (NWG-20) in TEC and also in BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) LITD 27.
He is also chairing TEC Consultative Committee to adopt oneM2M specification - resulting in adoption of oneM2M Release 2 & 3 as National standards.
He expressed his views in around 175 global conferences/ training programmes on IoT, 5G, Digital Transformation, Smart cities related topics.

Antonio Kung, Trialog
Antonio Kung is co-founder of Trialog. With more than 30 years of experience in the field of cyber physical systems and the Internet of Things, he brings expertise and know-how particularly on architecture, interoperability or data security and protection. He was the coordinator of numerous national and European collaborative projects in these fields. He is active in standardisation on the Internet of Things, security and data protection, AI, and the editor of ISO/IEC standards 21823-3, 27091, 27550, 27556, 27561, 27570, 30149, 31700-2. He became CEO of Trialog in 2018. Antonio has a master degree from Harvard university and an engineering degree from Ecole centrale Paris.

Maxime Lefrançois, Mines Saint-Étienne - Institut Mines Télécom
Maxime Lefrançois is associate professor at Mines Saint-Étienne, one of the engineering schools of Institut Mines Télécom. He is involved in the development of the ETSI SAREF ontology, and leads the work on the SAREF development framework, the SAREF pipeline, and the SAREF public portal.

Graham Martin, EnOcean Alliance
Graham is a veteran in the semiconductor industry with 40 years experience in analogue and wireless solutions at various Engineering, Sales and Marketing positions in USA, UK, Germany, Austria and Norway. He formed the EnOcean Alliance to create an international open interoperable wireless standard based on energy harvesting power in 2008. Today the standard is established IEC/ISO 14543-3-10/11 and the Alliance has 400 members, creating 5000 products installed in millions of buildings helping to achieve our sustainability and CO2 reduction goals. Before joining EnOcean he was a worldwide pioneer in low power wireless sensor networks at leading start-up Chipcon (purchased 2006 by Texas Instruments) where he conducted the worldwide business development activities, served as President of Figure8Wireless and was Vice Chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. Graham studied in USA and GB and is a Physics Graduate from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland..

Alice Li, Huawei Technologies UK
Alice Li is a Senior Standards Expert (consultant) at Huawei Technologies UK, with over 20 years’ experience in the mobile telecommunications industry. Prior to joining Huawei in 2020, she worked for Vodafone where she was also active in ETSI ISG MEC. Prior to Vodafone, she worked at Fujitsu Laboratories and Motorola. She has been active in several major SDOs and alliances -- ETSI ISG MEC, 3GPP SA1, 5G ACIA and 5GAA. Particularly in MEC ISG she have been the rapporteur and contributor to several major WIs, including Edge Application Enablement API and recently API Conformance Testing specifications. She is also rapporteur of 5G service requirements specification in 3GPP SA1, as well as an active contributor in other organizations such as 5GAA and 5G ACIA. Svet Svetoslav Mihaylov, European Commission
Svetoslav Mihaylov is a Policy Officer in Unit E4 – Internet of Things at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. His areas of responsibility include interoperability and standards for Internet of Things and application-focused edge and swarm computing. Besides his cross-sector responsibilities, he is focusing on the digitalisation of the energy domain. In his position at the European Commission he led the creation of the SAREF ontology for smart appliances and its extension in other IoT areas as well as a number of standards and other reference documentation in the area of urban platforms, Smart City interoperability and Internet of Things.
In the period 1999-2013, Svetoslav Mihaylov held different positions at the largest telecom operator in Belgium Proximus and was responsible for introducing new technologies, creating network solutions, defining the strategy and roadmap, etc. Prior to this he contributed to the development of the Information Society topic at the European Commission’s DG XIII Telecommunications and worked under contracts for several other organisations/companies.
He has an MSc in Telecommunications from Technical University of Sofia (plus Technical University of Denmark), postgraduate diploma in Wireless Telecommunications from Oxford University and postgraduate credit in Political and Economic Systems from Georgetown University.

Marianne Mohali, Orange
Marianne Mohali is a Standardisation Manager at Orange Innovation, specializing on IoT and Metaverse topics. Marianne has been involved in standards for 15+ years covering different topics and roles, starting with IMS, VoLTE and 5G (in IETF and 3GPP CT3 / CT1) and then moving to IoT and recently to Metaverse. Marianne was Vice-Chair of the oneM2M RDM working group and received a Technical Excellence Award in 2021. Since 2022, she has been Vice-Chair of a working group in the CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance) hosting the new "matter" protocol development where she received 2 Outstanding Contributor Awards (June 2022 & March 2023). For Metaverse, Marianne is attending the MSF (Metaverse Standards Forum) and TIP (Telco Infra Project) Metaverse Ready Networks project. In her activity, Marianne is also working to address the cybersecurity and sustainability of IoT devices which are critical challenges for the Orange Group.

Dr. Marco Picone, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
Marco Picone is an Assistant Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia working in the Distributed and Pervasive Intelligence (DIPI) Group at the Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering (DISMI). He received the Ph.D. in Information Technology and the M.Sc. (cum Laude) in Computer Engineering from the University of Parma and he has also been a research visitor in the NetOS group at the Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge (United Kingdom). He published several research papers and participated in many editorial activities for international journals, conferences, and events. His research interests are currently mainly focused on Distributed Systems, Internet of Things, Edge/Fog Computing, and Digital Twins.

Hugo Pinto, Inovaworks C&C / ETSI CDM
Hugo José Pinto is a software engineer with 20+ years for experience in distributed software architecture and development, and has been working in Maritime Data Exchange projects since BlueMassMed, a project co-funded by DG Mare in the framework of the EU's Integrated Maritime Policy in 2010. Hugo was originally part of the Industry Consortium that built the first CISE (Common Information Sharing Environment) Demonstrator project, EUCISE2020, and nowadays works in commercial implementations of CISE.

Dr. Dave Raggett, W3C/ERCIM
Dr. Dave Raggett is a web pioneer with a life long interest in AI, gaining experience at the University of Oxford, the Machine Intelligence Research Unit at the University of Edinburgh, the Logic Programming Department at Imperial College, the Computer Science and AI Lab at MIT and many years at HP Lab’s knowledge based programming department. He is now a member of W3C/ERCIM and involved in a succession of European projects. He founded W3C’s Cognitive AI Community Group and is driving ongoing work on human-like AI. He holds an honorary professorship from the University of the West of England.

Gabriel Rene, VERSES AI Inc
Gabriel René is CEO and Founder of VERSES (VRSSF) a publicly traded company and developer of KOSM™, a virtual operating system for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence applications, and author of the #1 International Bestseller ""The Spatial Web - How Web 3.0 Connects Humans, Machines, and AI to Transform the World"". Dr. Shane Rooney, GSMA
Shane Rooney is a Senior Director at the GSMA specializing in IoT. Bringing together strategies and synergies across the Industry verticals and the wider IoT ecosystems. Shane had previously led the GSMA’s initiative in developing mobile solutions in Smart Cities and collaborating with cities like Barcelona, Dubai and Shanghai. His team has developed a wider range of Smart City Indicators, Case Studies and Business Cases demonstrating the importance of mobile technology. His team also have developed enablers in IoT Security and embedded SIM. He has led the launch of Cellular LPWA Networks Technology (NB-IOT & LTE-M) initiative globally and Cellular V2X technology and now promoting 5G IOT. Previously he has been a Group Vice President with Etisalat, developing solutions for Energy, Security and Transport IoT solutions for Middle East, Africa and Asia. Before that he has worked with other Mobile Operators, Vodafone, Hutchison Europe and 3 UK as well as launching and divesting of his own M2M company. Shane pioneered early telematics and connected car solutions for Ford Motor Company in the USA and Europe. He has extensive Global experience. He holds a PhD in Communications Systems specialising in Location Based Services and studied Business Marketing at IMD Switzerland.

David Rua Dr. David Rua, INESC TEC
I am currently Coordinator of the Centre of Power and Energy Systems and Senior Researcher in the areas of digital systems for electric grids and demand side management. My background is on telecom and energy systems where I hold a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems from the University of Porto.

Dr. Ivan Scagnetto, University of Udine
Ivan Scagnetto received the Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2002 from the University of Udine, where he is assistant professor from 2005. His research interests range from software certification by means of formal techniques based on Computer Aided Formal Reasoning to mobile computing, information retrieval, and IoT systems. He is author of scientific papers with national and international peer review and he has been scientific reviewer on behalf of international journals and conferences. He worked in research projects funded by the European Commission, by MIUR (the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research) and by the National Military Research Plan.

Dr. Enrico Scarrone, ETSI TC SmartM2M Chair, oneM2M Steering Comittee Chair, TIM S.p.A.
Participation and promotion of early studies on integration of IP and mobile cellular allowed him to stimulate the inclusion of all-IP solution and the IMS in 3GPP. He was involved in in several network transformation projects in the mobile and FMC context around the world, developing a strong link between real networks and standardization/research. He was extensively engaged in 3GPP where he served as SA1 Chair from 2006 to 2011. He was deeply involved in the foundation of TC SmartM2M (from 2008) and oneM2M (from 2012), a global initiative for the standardization of IOT interoperability..
Enrico Scarrone is currently the Chair of the Steering Committee of oneM2M (representing ETSI), and Chair of ETSI TC SmartM2M. He is in charge of the coordination for IoT/M2M standardization in the TIM group.

Christoph Uran, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences
Christoph Uran is a researcher and lecturer at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, where he earned his master’s degree in Communication Engineering in 2013. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Klagenfurt focusing on Edge and Cloud computing in 5G networks for smart city applications. Christoph participated in several research projects and authored publications in Cloud computing, smart cities, 5G, smart home systems, sports timing, data management, and flexible event networks.

Dr. Samuel Van Ackere, Flanders Smart Data Space, Digitaal Vlaanderen
Samuel Van Ackere is an ICT data analyst at 'Digitaal Vlaanderen', a government agency that aims to support the data economy in Flanders. He has a PhD in Geomatics and an Industrial Engineering degree. He is part of the Flanders Smart Data Space team, which facilitates and encourages data sharing across different organizations and sectors. His work involves onboarding datasets as Linked Data Event Streams, following the OSLO standard (Open Standards for Linked Organizations).

Dwight Van Lancker, Digital Flanders
Dwight Van Lancker is an ICT Architect at Digital Flanders, a leading government agency focused on digital transformation. He is a strong advocate for Linked Data and the Semantic Web, believing in their potential to revolutionize information integration and collaboration. The Smart Data Services at Digital Flanders have that same belief, which was the reason Dwight joined them in 2019.

Dr. Jack Verhoosel, TNO
Jack Verhoosel is Senior Consulting Scientist within the Data Science department of TNO. His group focuses on semantic interoperability, i.e., the efficient and effective use of IT for knowledge representation and information sharing between organisations. He specialises in semantic technology, AI reasoning and data analytics. Research topics include (1) knowledge representation in ontologies, (2) semantic web and reasoning technology for data orchestration and (3) data analytics technology for big data applications. He applies his knowledge in various industry sectors, with a special focus on the horticulture and agrifood domains. He is responsible for developing new consortium projects in these domains to further strengthen the expertise of his group and performs the role of technical lead in the execution of these applied research projects.

Prof. Helmut Woellik, FH Kaernten
Helmut Woellik is Professor at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in Austria. His teaching and research areas include Mobile Communication Networks, Mobile Computing and Radio Frequency Identification. In addition to teaching, he carried out a large number of projects in the field of ad-hoc network technology infrastructures and digital transformation processes for external clients. Since 2019 he is head of the ROADMAP-5G research group, which deals with 5G use case research, in particular with the topics of Smart City and Telecommunication Edge Services. Together with his team he serves the 5G Playground Carinthia Laboratory for 5G use case development. He is a member of the International Sports Engineering Association, works as a peer reviewer on the Advisory Board of the annual International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation and is a representative of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in the Silicon Alps Cluster Focus Group RFID.

Antony Yousefian, Wiliot
Antony Yousefian is passionate about leveraging technology for good and transforming global supply chains from extractive to regenerative. As the VP of Climate & Circularity at Wiliot, Antony focuses on strategy and developing climate solutions with customers to accelerate carbon removal. Antony began his career in asset management and investment banking, where he witnessed the rapid growth of ESG and impact capital. Driven by the desire to accelerate positive change with finance, he started angel investing and went on to develop and help scale two startups: 30MHz, which used IoT to increase crop yields, and Bx, which quantified the ecological footprint of farming. Today, Antony continues to support the early-stage ecosystem as a Partner at TFT and as Chair of the Advisory Board for the UK Agtech Centre, Agrimetrics.

Dr. Anastasios Zafeiropoulos, National Technical University of Athens
Anastasios Zafeiropoulos received the Diploma and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and the M.Sc. degree in public policy and management from the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at NTUA. He has participated in multiple EU and national funded research projects, focusing mainly on the implementation of innovative technical solutions on the fields of 5G, SDN/NFV, IoT, open/linked data and analytics technologies.
